Waiting For Godot
From Current Biography,
September 1985:
It was while playing the part of
Lucky, the slave in Godot, that he had the "Great Experience", as he
later termed it, that eventually led to
his decision to become a professional actor. In the middle of the final performance of the play, he told Marin
Torgoff of Interview magazine [April 1981], "I had this sudden,
wonderful understanding about the character just the instant before I was
supposed to speak. I had a palpable
sensation of control from my fingers out to the audience, that what I did
affected them, and I thought: 'My God, this is wonderful!' "
