John Winston Lennon
May 16,1995 - October
16,1999
John, named after the
Beatle John W. Lennon, was a sweet parakeet also known as a Budgie. He
was the second parakeet, one of three, that I ever bought and by far my
favorite. Though he never learned to talk he knew many tricks. He could
sing the melody to many of his favorite TV shows like Green Acres and the
Adams Family, he could even mimic the clicking nose. He loved to sing along
with the radio as well as my CD collection. His favorites were the Beatles,
The Rolling Stones, Jerry Reed, and the song "Rockin' Robin".
He was a very shy bird
and didn't make very good friends with my other two parakeets so I gave
the others away to friends. He did have two others though, not including
myself; his reflection in his full length mirror and Athena, a plastic
parakeet dummy.
During his last days
his beautiful singing came to a halt as did his energy and his will to
fly. He became ill with a cold and though he was treated with medicine
it could not help cease the cycle of life. He was very special to me and
there will never be another John Lennon.
May 16, 2000 would have
been his 5th birthday. He now resides in a cozy part of my backyard next
to my late Chihuahua, Bambi.
