RULES

CONTEST PERIOD: Calendar year 2003.

DEADLINE: Entries must be received by Friday, Feb. 6, 2004. Ship them to Barb Godec, Photo Contest, AP, 500 N. Third Street, Suite 120, Phoenix, AZ 85004.

ELIGIBILITY

Pictures made by photographers, artists or reporter/photographers employed by any Arizona AP member newspaper and published in that newspaper within the contest period. To be eligible, pictures must be produced while the entrant is on assignment for the newspaper that publishes the photo.

NUMBER OF ENTRIES

Three entries in each category will be allowed from each photographer. Photos submitted as part of a Photo Story entry MAY NOT be submitted separately in other categories.

ENTRY FORMAT-The Short Version

Entries may be submitted in electronic format (see below) or as tearsheets. Entries may not be submitted as slides. Each newspaper must organize its entries on one CD-ROM readable on a PC. In addition, it must provide a corresponding manila file folder for each contest category (such as Spot News) containing entry forms _ in order or presentation _ for each photo it is submitting electronically. There's no need to submit a separate file folder for each entry.

ENTRY FORMAT-Detailed

Electronic entries must be accompanied by a tearsheet for reference or by a signed statement verifying the eligibility for each batch of entries from a member newspaper. Each electronic entry must be accompanied by an entry form that is sorted in a contest category manila folder in the order of presentation and properly noted with the entry's Electronic Entry ID (see below).

Tearsheet entries must be accompanied a copy of the entry form attached to these rules. A copy of the entry form must be attached to the tearsheet and must properly note that it is a tearsheet entry.

If submitting electronic entries, each newspaper must organize its entries on one CD-ROM readable on a PC. Images must be sorted into folders on the CD-ROM corresponding with each contest category (see below). Each newspaper submitting electronic entries also must submit a manila file folder for each contest category, such as Spot News, containing an entry form and, if applicable, supporting tearsheet for each entry in that category in order of presentation.

If submitting both electronic and tearsheet entries, tearsheet entries must be put in the same manila file folder as entry forms for electronic entries and placed in front of the electronic entries. Mark on the entry form (on top) that this is a tearsheet entry.

Each manila folder containing a newspaper's entry forms and, if applicable, tearsheet entries for a contest category must have a Contest Category Summary Sheet (included) affixed to the front of the manila folder listing the newspaper and division and noting whether the newspaper is submitting electronic entries, tearsheet entries or both.

FORMAT FOR ELECTRONIC ENTRIES

All images must be sorted into folders on one CD-ROM, accompanied by a manila folder for each contest category containing the newspaper's entry forms (in order) for that category.

All files must be no bigger than 10 inches (on the longest dimension) at 200 resolution and saved as PhotoShop JPEG files.

Electronic images must be saved into folders identified by number, name and a newspaper's unique system identification code (see below). For example:
