Omega Theta Sigma
Our local history at Millersville University
Over thirty-five years ago, ten young women at Millersville University came together in the hopes of founding a local sorority that would meet all of their ideals. Out of this grew Omega Theta Sigma. Founded in September of 1966, the Theta Sigs, as they were then known, chose to be represented by a symbol of their beautiful campus: the swan. The flower they chose was a ten petal daisy, the petals a symbol of each of the chapter's founders. Their colors were chosen as Forest Green and Ivory, each representing something significant to the sorority. As the women grew and matured together, their motto became "One through sisterhood." Through the years, their sisterhood grew strong, and the women were active members on campus. Gradually, they came to be known as OTS, rather than Theta Sigs. Years later, as the goals of women in Greek organizations grew and changed, the then active sisters began researching national organizations, in the hope that one would be consistant with the both the ideals of OTS and with their secrets and ritual. Alpha Xi Delta most closely meshed not only with the goals of OTS sisters then, but it was an organization the women felt they would be proud to affiliate with throughout their alumni years. Today, many years have passed since the founding of OTS, but its memories are kept closely in our hearts. Each semester our chapter of Alpha Xi Delta takes a day to discuss and experience some of the traditions of Omega Theta Sigma. We remain proud of our local heritage, and that it finally brought us to Alpha Xi Delta. |
