PAST MONTH'S GIGS
The Arizona Highlanders played at Flagstaff's National Tartan Day
celebration on April 6. Performing with the band were pipers Michael
Donelson, Nicki Keesee, Nancy McPherson, and Martha Shideler; and drummers
Barbara, Joe, Sean, and Timothy Meehan, and Geoff Pavey. Nancy piped in
the haggis, and Nicki and Michael played solos. A special treat was
seven-year-old Chance Glenn playing Scots Wha Hae on the practice chanter.

On April 12 Nicki Keesee and Nancy McPherson piped with drummer
Steve Studebaker of the West Wind Pipe Band at the Memorial Service for
Lori Piestewa, in Tuba City.

Flagstaff on April 5 and 6. Flagstaff pipers attending were Ann Callan,
Michael Donelson. Martha Shideler, and Freddi Steele. Instructor Iain
Macey, originally from Scotland, currently living in Michigan, presented
two piobaireachds--Finger Lock and I Got a Kiss of the King's Hand--in a
way that was relevant for pipers from Grade IV through Grade I. Stay tuned
for information on the next NBCMS workshop with Iain to be held somewhere
in the Southwest in the Fall.

MUSICAL
(Les Miserables, the Pipers' Edition)
Can you hear the bagpipes sing,
singing the songs of angry men?
There's the desperate battle of the birds
and Squintin' Pat again.
When the beating of your heart matches
the humming of the drones,
there will be a brand new day
when tomorrow comes.
Bob Cameron

THE HOST OF THE AIR
He heard, high up in the air,
A piper, piping away,
And never was piping so sad,
And never was piping so gay.
W. B. Yeats
