LAMP general membership meetings/seminars are held at various locations in the metropolitan Phoenix area, at 6:00 p.m. on the second Wednesday or 9:00 a.m. on the second Saturday of each month. These seminars feature subjects geared towards the needs and interests of our members. They last approximately one to two hours and attendees receive one to two units of CLAE credit. However, we have many members who are not CLAs and attend meetings to learn more about the profession. Topics for monthly discussions have covered diverse topics such as: consumer law, courtroom practice, intellectual law (i.e. copyrights), arbitration and trial settlement strategies and the newest in law firm technology. Members receive monthly invitations via email regarding each seminar.
LAMP is managed by six officers – President, 1st Vice President (Education), 2nd Vice President (Membership), Secretary, Treasurer and NALA Liaison. Our officers are elected annually by our voting members. Our officers for the 2008-2009 year are: President - Debbie Nolan, CLA; 1nd Vice President (Education) - Ann Pearson, CLA; 2nd Vice President (Membership) - Debbie Beliveau, CLA; Secretary - Priscilla Gibson, CLA; Treasurer - Claudia Bethge and NALA Liaison - Monica Rapps, CLA.
LAMP is a chapter of the National Association of Legal Assistants (NALA). NALA is the leading professional association for legal assistants, providing continuing education and professional certification programs for paralegals. NALA is an integral part of the legal community, working to improve the quality and effectiveness of the delivery of legal services and is composed of over 18,000 paralegals nationally.
As mandated by NALA, all Certified Legal Assistants (CLAs) must submit evidence of completion of five (5) units of Continuing Legal Assistant Education (CLAE) every five (5) years to NALA in order to maintain valid certification.
