- Summary of the Book:
- "Memoirs of a Geisha" is the story of a young Japanese girl named Sayuri who is sold into slavery. The sad thing is that it's her father who does this to her. The type of slavery i'm talking about isn't the typical slavery that comes into mind. It's a whole different world where becoming a geisha is the only way Sayuri is able to survive. Against her own will, Sayuri is forced to become something she's not. There are many times in the story when i just cried for her because her ordeal was so tough. She experiences so much suffering that one wonders how she got through life, but she managed to somehow. Through it all, she survives and eventually makes a name for herself. Without giving away the ending, Sayuri eventually becomes one of the most well-known geishas in all of Japan and she finds love in the process of it all.
- My Thoughts on the Book:
- Memoirs of a Geisha is quite honestly the best book I've ever read in my life. I've never liked a book as much as I liked this one. I've encouraged most of my frends to read this book and many of them have, and said they enjoyed it as well. Originally I bought the book to read on my plane trip back to Taiwan but after i started reading it, i finished it within 2-3 days. It's one of those books that u just can't seem to put down.
