History: |
It was purchased half built in 1985 by myself. It had a 52 hp volks mill in it, and was poorly constructed. Never having seen the road I took it a part and rebuilt it correctly, upping it to 100 hp. In a short while the thrill was gone . Once again I upped to a 140 hp 6 cyll
Porsche mill. It bolted directly to the v w tranny. In a short while that wore thin so
Installed a 75 hp nitrous system. that totaled 220 ponies. It moved pretty
good. However it was short lived as the button stuck on day and left the hot oily pieces of the
Porsche motor in the middle of interstate 10. The A7 and I both took a break for about a year as I shopped for a new power plant. Soon I found a 220 hp 89 911 carrera motor with 600 miles. I bought the engine and
tranny. When I got it home I realized it would not work it the car as it was. A
total restoration had to take place. I stripped the car to naught threw all away except the fiberglass and the windshield and began. I reworked the volks
chassis completely. cut the frame head to lower 2 inches and increase camber to 14 degrees.
I cut the chassis at the gear shift to move the shifter back 8 inches. installed
29 mm torsion bars (sway away) and lowered the rear 2 inches .I installed disc brakes and 19 mm sway bars front and rear. Finally
I Fabricated a 2 inch sub chassis to support the new Porsche motor. I sectioned out the wish bone to make room for the 915 tranny, Changed the stub axels to fit 930 race c v joints
welded up the wheel bearing bores and bored them for a one piece bearing (they wont
break) and moved the throttle and clutch tube to exit out of the lower part of the
chasis, to accommodate the 915 tranny. The final touch was stainless break lines and a good proportion
valve. The engine was dis-assembled and worked to produce 325 hp. I changed almost all components to get there, then I added 150 hp nitrous on top. I added a F40 rear spoiler ground effects from a
Nissan truck, N A CA scoops from a vette and blended them till they became part of the body design. I raised the front spoiler to become a hood and molded the three piece front cap into
one, the car was blocked sanded and painted laser red with a quarter pound of gold dust. Ten coats of clear lacquer followed with a hundred hours of rubbing and polishing. All the trim was gold plated as well as several engine pieces. The interior consists of carbeau seats and custom built panels. I covered the dash with lexan and built a matching overhead console. Instrumentation is extensive and of aircraft style. Zero to sixty is 3.8 seconds quarter mile is 11.0 seconds, top speed is 170 mph plus. Car weight is 1780 lbs with air conditioner. It has been featured in 12 national magazines, including Kit Car illustrated, Hot Rod autocraft internaional traverler, Car Craft and the new Kit Car Builder. It has 62 first place wins, and has been featured on a 7 minute interview on Speed Vision. |
