Hotaru on Her Own

Hotaru Tomoe had a casual childhood with two parents that cared about her very much. She and her parents lived in the Tomoe Mansion, her father a successful professor, and her mother, a home worker. Little did Hotaru know that her child hood could change in just the blink of an eye. Hotaru's mother died while she was still very young in a house fire, breaking up the happy family. Professor Tomoe commited himself to his work full time which then caused Hotaru to be shunned in loneliness. As a first year student, Hotaru attended Mugen School. She had no friends, due to the unusual ability that she could heal people. Her fellow classmates became afraid of her and totally ignored her. When she isn't at school, she is in a huge house, in her dark room, lit by her collected lamps and watched by her acumulated dolls. With no mother, Kaorinite stepped in as Hotaru's other guardian, tending to some house duties, but not as a mother. She made fun of Hotaru, and always insisted she stay inside. She also spent other times flirting with Professor Tomoe. |
One day in her father's laboratory, her father was displaying his latest experiment to some fellow scientists. Hotaru was looking over it when it somehow backfired and killed everyone, including Hotaru. As Professor Tomoe rose, still alive, and laid eyes on the lifeless body of Hotaru, he shouted for someone to help him bring his little girl back, no matter the cost. Pharaoh 90, the Daemon Master appeared and told Professor Tomoe that he would save Hotaru only if he gave up his soul in return. The professor agreed to the trade. But in as Professor Tomoe was being possessed by Pharoah 90, Hotaru awoke, seeing her father be overtaken. Pharoah 90 decided that since Hotaru beared witness, he decided to possess Hotaru with a demon too.
Things began to change for Hotaru one day when she was in the park, and she heard a voice yelling "Someone! Please! Stop my hat! It's getting away!". Hotaru lifted her meek head and saw a hat flying away from a little girl with pink hair. Hotaru caught it, and returned it to the girl, who introduced herself as Rini. From that moment, Rini and Hotaru became good friends. But yet, life still had some turns left for Hotaru.

Hotaru began to display several bizarre powers of defense to the other scouts in times of peril and danger. One day, Hotaru told Rini she shouldn't see her anymore, for fear that she might hurt her. Kaorinite kept her inside, and waited for demon to display itself then sent Hotaru to her father. She was kept in a labratory, and she grew weaker and weaker, day by day, for the demon inside of her was suffering. It needed pure hearts. When Rini had a nightmare about Hotaru being in danger, she ran straight to Hotaru's house and snuck into Hotaru's room searching for here in her Sailor Scout form. Kaorinite kidnapped Rini, knowing of her strong sugary heart. As the scouts learned of Hotaru being in danger, they pursued to find her at Mugen school, which was where almost all the fingers of recent battles pointed to. They discovered the space that Hotaru was in, and they found Rini unconcious. When Sailor Moon tried to rescue here, she was zapped by a energy field, making it impossible to save little Rini. When Professor Tomoe called for the Sovereign to awake, the demon reached into Rini and stole her pure heart crystal. Hotaru, unknown to what was happening, swallowed the crystal and was transformed into the Sovereign of Silence, Mistress 9. As the building began to breakdown, the scouts rescued Rini and rushed out of the collapsing building.

With Rini living off Darien's neurons, and Hotaru with no control, the scouts returned to Mugen School to defeat Mistress 9. Mistress 9's primary goal was to steal the Holy Grail from Sailor Moon to revive Pharoah 90 from Professor Tomoe and she and Pharoah 90 would be able to destory earth. Mistress 9 put up protective barrier around the school, and summoned some demons to go out and keep the Scouts at bay until she could possess the Holy Grail. With Pluto, Uranus and Neptune ahead of the other scouts, trying to stop Mistress 9 on their own, they were caught in an explosion which could have killed them, but Sailor Pluto stopped time, saving them and risking her own existence on Earth.. The other scouts arrived, and stopped the spreading evil by containing it in a box, but Mistress 9 got a hold of Sailor Moon and through her innocence in the body of sweet Hotaru, was able to posses the Holy Grail. Mistress 9 revived Pharoah 90 and he left Professor Tomoe's body to start to regenerate to come to Earth and Professor Tomoe was free. Tomoe saw the pain that Hotaru was enducing, able to see his little girl inside Mistress 9, but he couldn't save her. Only Hotaru could do it alone. She began to recall some of her happier memories, and some of the sad ones, bu mostly happy memories of being with Rini, and the love that she had being around her and her family. It was the love that finally overcame Mistress 9, allowing the Symbol of Saturn to appear on Hotaru's forehead, and Sailor Saturn to finally appeared. She first transports to the apartment, where Darien is trying desperately to save Rini, and returns her pure heart crystal. Rini recovers and is restored. She then returns and becomes aware of the destruction done by Mistress 9 and the coming of Pharoah 90, and must save the world from the evil brought by them. She tells the Sailor Moon that she must do this independently, by Silencing the evil. Heading to the crater to end the destruction, Sailor Moon begs Sailor Saturn to reconsider and even tries to follow her into the crater. Summoning her glaive and pointing it to Sailor Moon's head, she says good-bye and leaps into the crater to finish what was accidently done by her. Sailor Moon tries to follow but it blown back. Crying frantically, she tries to transform into Super Sailor Moon, but without the Holy Grail, she failed. When all seems to be over for Sailor Saturn, Serena's Heart Crystal from the Holy Grail appears, accompanied by the devotion of the other Scouts, and she transforms into Super Sailor Moon and dives into the crater. The world is saved, but when only Serena returns, beaten, Sailor Saturn is nowhere to be seen until she walks to the other scouts. Serena is holding a baby...Hotaru has died saving the world, and has been reborn.
