Rt#94,at a crossroad about six miles east of Blairstown on the way into Newton, the cemetery is in Frelinghuysen Township,Warren County, while the Church stands across the road in Sussex County. |

Taken from William Clinton Armstrong's book " A Genealogical Record of the Descendants of Nathan Armstrong', pages 135-136. The First Presbyterian Church in the Hardwick Patent was organized at Hackettstown, where a log meeting house was erected about 1750. The Presbyterian families who had settled into the vicinity of Log Gaol attended this church, although it was ten miles away, but soon felt themselves strong enough to organize a separarte congregation. Accodingly in 1763,they built a log meeting house at the Dark Moon, but it was nine years later before they succeeded in securing the services of a regular pastor. This Church at Dark Moon was used as a place of Worship for more than twenty years before it was abandoned, an in 1785 the congregation erected a new building at Shaw's Lane on the Ridge. In 1841, the Yellow Frame was remodeled; in 1858 a vestibule and tower were built on the north end and in 1872 it was again repaired and refurnished. This Venerable house of worship is still standing , but it is no longer usd for religious services;in 1887 a new edifice and a parsonage were erected on the opposite side of the road. |
