The last and second-largest of the Babylon Space Stations built by the Earth Alliance, Babylon 5 measures over eight kilometers in length and houses a population of close to two-hundred-and-fifty thousand sentiens. However, the size of the station is something of a deceiving factor as the total defensive output is less than that of an Omega-class Destroyer at one-fifth the station's length. The current central command for the League's High Council and the seat of power for John Sheridan and his rebels, Babylon 5 orbits the world of Epsilon Eridani at a relatively central location in the larger galaxy. In the past, Babylon 5 was the target of a concerted effort by the Raiders to remove the station and the threat it posed to Raider operations in League space. The station also came under attack from a Centauri Cruiser during 2259 and then in 2260 when Sheridan withdrew Babylon 5 from the Earth Alliance and President Clark sent forces to reclaim the outpost. Only the intervention of General Hague's fleet saved the station from total destruction at the hands of the Earth Alliance Destroyers Nimrod and Achillies. Since that time, Babylon 5 has been relatively quiet due to the presence of the Destroyers Talos and Yalta as well as a small fleet of converted civilian craft and Starfighters. |
