Designed by the Narn in 2217 from different vessels both stolen and purchased from the League of Non-Alligned Worlds, the T'Loth bears a strikingly un-Narn design for this reason. Meant to be a massive warship able to smash apart a Primus Heavy Cruiser with ease, the T'Loth was nothing of the sort. Poorly armed for her size and burdened with an inferior sensor package which effectively blinds her at long range.
Pieced together from sensor systems stolen from the Drazi, the Brakiri and the Vree, the end result was arguably the worst sensor package ever used by a space faring race. Finicky and poorly built, it often made the mistake of designating hostile targets where there was no enemy at all or, worse, where a friendly vessel was located. More than one ship was lost to friendly fire during the many wars the Narn waged. Many attempts were made to upgrade the system or replace it entirely, but none were succesful due to the haphazard way the systems had been built and the vessel was stuck with its massive disadvantage.
First introduced on a massed scale during the Dilgar War, the
T'Loth was quickly proven to be a massive mistake on the parts of Narn military designers. Undergunned, these ships were unable to successfully engaged the heavier Sekehemet-class Cruisers the Dilgar were using. Combined with the near-blindness that the Cruiser suffered at ranges just above her weapons range, she was an ineffective patrol ship and could not be fielded successfuly without a Th'Nor Cruiser is attendance. Finally, after many disasters including the loss of five of these vessels in hyperspace because of a faulty sensor grid, the Narn High Command ordered these ships to be equipped to carry Frazi Starfighters in place of some of the guns, sacrificing some of the firepower for incresed sensor range and survivability in combat.
Note: Because of the poor sensor package onboard the T'Loth Heavy Cruiser, this vessel's detection range is three squares, not the normal four
