Nothing like a good Unit Convention gathering. For those of you not in the know, a Unit Convention is held in the fall of each year which brings together Effendi Baha'is from a number of local communities to elect one person who will in turn be sent to Wilmette in the spring to elect the same nine people who are always elected to the National Spiritual Assembly.
Unit conventions tend to consist of several parts, including the election of the representative to go to Wilmette, consultation about topics they would like that rep to raise with the National Assembly, and, of course, the social gathering.
Well, unit conventions had become just one great big bore (i.e. they were just like Feast, only bigger). So recently, National told everyone to blow off the consultation part of the Unit Conventions. I mean, you may as well get to the social part (which has been livined up - see below). However, Susan Maneck persuaded the Universal House of Justice to over turn the ruling about no consultation at Unit Conventions. This was widely publicized all over the net. However, Baha'i Angst has learned that Ms. Maneck also persuaded the UH$ to have the social part of the UC's revitalized so as to attract a more diverse crowd. Baha'i Angst is pleased to report that this was a smashing success, a great victory for the otherwise insipid and boring Five Year Plan.
Baha'i Angst is pleased to bring you photos from a resultant unit convention. These photos were taken by an ABABM (Auxillary Baha'i Angst Board Member) in secret. They reveal that indeed the UC's are a very different creature than they once were. They also made Baha'i Angst wonder if Susan and Nima were there together. Below are photos from the UC. Baha'i Angst requests that Baha'i Angst's loyal readers please take a look at these photos and send to Baha'i Angst your guess as to which photo is most likely to be of Susan and Nima together. You can email Baha'i Angst at bahaiangst@hotmail.com with your answer. The winners get help us name the next AO Hole of the Month.
