18th Century Related E-Lists
E-mail lists or "groups" dedicated to the discussion and dissemination of knowledge and resources about the particular topic stated. I've learned more from the last few years of "listing" than I have in ten years of solitary research.

Articles on Women's Clothing
General overviews, specific information, but not the "how to." See my
Instructional Sites pages for that.

Bibliographies of Costuming Books

Books on Costuming

Costume Links Pages
These are "monster" links pages - they contain weblinks to many other sites, historic clothing timelines, period art, photos of original garments, and just a wealth of information.

Glossaries of Textile and Clothing Terms
Textile and clothing terms are just confusing. These are handy to have at hand for referring back to while reading other resources.

Instructional Sites
Literally, how to make a petticoat, how to make a cap, how to make a shift, how to make an apron, how to make stays, etc.

Persona Development
It's unfortunate but true - you can't costume your 'character' until you know who she is! You gotta figure out her nationality, geographic location, and economic status before you can make good costuming decisions.

Pictorial Documentation
Art collections on the web containing period paintings for research, photos of original garments, and pix of well done modern reproductions.

Women's Clothing Guidelines
Also known as "Distaff Guides". Websites set up as "guidebooks" for various reenacting units. In learning what various other groups recommend their members wear, you can see the similarities and differences based on geography, ethnicity, and time period. While they are similar to this website, each author brings a different perspective and new information to the topic. I highly recommend reading these sites.

Native American Resources
Since I have not been researching a Native American impression, my knowledge of such things is very limited.  I do not claim to have the last word in all 18thC reenacting listed on my pages. I do, however, have a small number of Native American Resources, which can be found on this page.
Still Under Construction......

Suppliers
Sutlers (the 18thC term for a merchant who sold goods to the military, today it means a merchant who sells period reproduction goods to reenactors), and mainstream retailers of necessary supplies such as fabric, sewing notions, patterns, etc. (Just go to Burnley & Trowbridge for now).
