ABC 6/09/01 11:20:10 Indonesia's Vice President Hamzah Haz, is reportedly considering establishing a special body to settle religious unrest in the Maluku islands. The chairman of a private working comittee on the Maluku problem, Amir Hamzah, was speaking after a meeting with the Vice President. He said the Vice President was considering creating a body or an institution to comprehensively settle the Maluku problem, which has dragged on for 30 months and claimed more than five-thousand lives. Indonesia's state Antara newsagency says the new institution would include representatives of the central government, the local people and other groups in the province. Violence between Christians and Muslims in the Maluku islands first flared in January, 1999 that quickly degenerated into a religious conflict and spread from the main island of Ambon to other islands. 6/09/01 11:20:10
