**A Little about Life Here**

Students live in either university dormitories or in rented houses and apartments. You may apply for a place in the dormitories or may try to find a house or an apartment in the city. Dormitory prices range from US$30/- to US$200/- per month depending on the number of people in each room (6-1 respectively). House rents range from US$70/- to US$150/- per month per person. Houses are usually furnished and are shared by two to four students.

As soon as you have settled down, you should apply for a residence permit. In order to obtain one, you are first required to clear an AIDS test costing US$125/-. Remember AIDS test taken in Northern Cyprus is valid only. If you present O.K. report from outside TRNC, that is not repeating acceptable here. So it is "Jaga" tax.

As most Pakistani students prefer to live in houses and apartments and therefore cook food themselves (cooking is also permitted in some of the dormitories), it is advised that you bring Pakistani spices like red chili powder, turmeric (haldi), mixed spices (garam masala), zeera, etc., with you as only a few spices are available locally, and these are considered bland by Pakistanis.

Winter months (October to March) are pleasant during daytime and chilly at night. Warm clothing such as sweaters and jackets is advisable. The remainder of the year is hot, with temperatures going to 35 degrees C.

Many students prefer to keep cars. Duty free cars may be purchased locally by students. The international Pakistani driving license is accepted.
