Before every single show all the guys grab hands and say a prayer:"...just so the show goes well and that there are no injuries." - says Brian. After that they put their hands togehter and yell: "One, two, three... BACKSTREET! BSB what time is it? It's time to go to work now! What kind of work? Hard work!".
The Backstreet Boys started their first full American tour in North Carolina on 8 th July'98. The band is supported by Jimmy Ray, Solid Harmonie, S.O.A.P. and 10-year-old Aaron Carter - Nick's brother.
On the new US version of the single "I'll Never Break Your Heart" you can hear a Spanish and another versions of this song. Backstreet Boys made also a new video clip to promote this great ballad in America (in this clip you see also Leigh-Anne Wallace).
On 10th September'98 Backstreet Boys won an award - Mr. Planetman - at the MTV Video Music Awards in Los Angeles for Best Group Video "Everybody". They were also nominated MTV Europe Music Awards as Best Group and Best Pop.

Boys say to us: "It takes more than a hit single to reach the top". And what it takes? Milk! In America Backstreet Boys made a commercial for "Got Milk" campaign, just like the other stars: Dennis Rodman, David Copperfield or Hanson. That commercial fans can find in magazines or on posters. Boys took for that no money. They wanted to join it to "Make it for our jung fans" like Kev said. The object of this commercial is to realize jung people that: "15% of adult height is added during teen years. So we give our growing bones lots of calcium by drinking milk. How do you suppose we reach all those high notes, anyway?". It's Backstreet's second commercial. The first they made about two years ago for Telekom T-Mobil pagers in Germany. Then they combined it with Brian's 22th birthday.
On 19th or 26th April'99 should come out Backstreet Boys' NEW SINGLE and on 18th May'99 - NEW THIRD BACKSTREET BOYS' ALBUM "MILLENIUM"!!! For now fans know only 3 songs from that new album: "I'll Be The One", "Show Me The Meaning" and "I Need You Tonight". The first single is called "I Want It That Way". We should found on the new album also songs called: "Larger than life" (a tribute to fans written by BSB), "Who do you love" (which premiere was on Viva Unplugged Concert), "Back to your heart" (Kevin's one), "By your side" (performed in 1996 on MTV), "Where can we go from here" (written by Brian and Tommy Smith), "My heart stays with you" (Howie's one), "Treat me right" (duet BSB & Foxy Brown), "Say what's in my heart", "The perfect fan" (written by Brian for BSB's mothers).
On 28th March'98 Backstreets performed at VIVA TV: the unplugged concert. It was one of the best and the most important concerts in their career. Boys are very proud of that - they sang perfect and nobody should call them a 'boyband' anymore! It seems like Kev's promise came true. Once he said: "Someday people won't see us a boyband, but as a vocal harmonie group. It just needs some time.". And he was right!
Fans waited 14 months for that new Backstreet Boys' single - "I WANT IT THAT WAY", but it was definitely worth that! The single came out in Europe on 3rd May'99 and went straight on 1st place in charts during first 2 weeks in 7 European countries: Germany, Switzerland, Norway, Austria, Italy, Spain and England!!! In Holland and Sweden "I Want It That Way" went to 2nd place, in Yugoslavia and Denmark to 3rd place and then also on 1st, in Ireland to 4th and in Belgium to 7th and 5th place. This is first single from the BSB's third album - "Millennium". As the boys say, this song is about conflict in a relationship and the singer ultimately recognising that he will love his partner no matter what. BSB finished shooting the video clip to this beautiful midtempo song in April'99 at the Los Angeles International Airport "Shooting Star". The video directed Wayne Isham, who made also video clips for: Ricky Martin ("Livin' La Vida Loca"), Will Smith ("Miami"), Metallica.
"THE COUNTDOWN IS ON!!!" These pictures are taking from the commercial, which Backstreet Boys made to promote their brand new and hot album "Millennium" in the whole world! |
On 17th May'99 finally came out Backstreet Boys' third album in their career called "MILLENNIUM". It was a world premiere and boys celebrated that at the Time Square in New York with 10 thousands of fans! On that day BSB got a press conference for about 200 journalists at "Studio 54" in New York. They recorded "Millennium" in Orlando, Stockholm, England and New York. In the first week of sale that album BSB broke American Garth Brooks' record, who sold 1,08 million copies of his album "Double". Backstreet Boys sold over 1,13 million copies of "Millennium" in America and over 8 millions in the whole world during the first week. On 31st May'99 they went straight on 1st place at album charts in American Billboard and in Germany, also on 2nd place in England. In America they moved from the throne Ricky Martin's new album, which also broke the Brooks' record only one day before "Millennium". But BSB are the greatest! They broke also record in Denmark, where during the first week they sold over 50,000 copies of "Millennium"!
Another record for the Backstreet Boys and their hot new album - BSB sold over 500,000 copies of "Millennium during first 24 hours of sale!!! On the press conference in New York, which took place on 17'th May'99, A.J. said that on "Millennium" every song could be Backstreet Boys' second single. But probably they will choose a uptempo one. At the party after conference were: Puff Daddy, Babyface, Jay-Z, Pollyanna (Howie's sister), Trey D. (Kev's friend), Leigh-Anne with Brian and Mandy with Nick.
On 9th March'99 BSB received in US a Diamond Record for selling over 10 millions copies of American version their first album - "Backstreet Boys". This award received earlier: Bon Jovi, Boyz II Men, Garth Brooks, Mariah Carey, Eric Clapton, Celine Dion, The Eagles, Whitney Houston, Elton John...
On the cover of 813th issue of "Rolling Stone" from 27th May'99 we see nobody else but our Backstreet Boys! How important it is for them to be on the cover of so popular and old music magazine in US said A.J.: "'Rolling Stone is a bible for pop music. Every musician dreams to be even though once on the cover. For us it's a real honor and credit."
