TRIP REPORT:
On Sat (5/2) and Sun (5/3) we drove out to Moab from the Bay
Area, CA. Then after the week of off-roading, we drove back on
Friday night and Sat. Here is the day by day list of 4x4 trails we did while in Moab.
Monday: Poison Spider to Golden Spike to Golden Bar Tuesday: Moab Rim Wednesday: Hell's Revenge Thursday: (day-off from hard stuff) Shafer Trial to White Rim Friday: Pritchett Canyon to Behind the Rocks On Monday we met some guys from the Los Angeles area and we followed them through the trial. On Tuesday we were on our own, but this was ok since the trail was not hard to get lost on. Both of these days were great wheeling, but uneventful as far as breakdowns, body damage, etc. On Wed we met a different group from the Los Angeles area. They didn't have any pics up the last time I went to their site at DIRTFIRST
They had a hired guide and we "tagged" along behind them. This
was lucky for us since it's real easy to get lost on Hell's Revenge. This is where George and another of our group tipped on their side. The guide showed us these optional obstacles. On the first one (Devil's Gate, which everybody did) George tipped on his side. He went over real slow and only smashed his mirror and bent the windshield frame a little. The second tipover was Scott while he was backing out of the small (Mickey's ??) Bath Tub. He also smashed his mirror, but that was all. No one else tried the Bath Tub after that. Of course, the guide said that if we were part of the "paying group" he would not have let them tip over. I guess the tipovers were the "payment" for the day. Thursday was a relaxing easy day. Friday we saw part of the same group from Wednesday with the same guide coming out as we were going in. One of the Dirtfirst guys broke something at the first obstacle and was being towed out. We did not have much problems on that one, but later, on the "Rocker Knocker," we had to winch everybody up. After that, on the "Rock Pile" we got one Jeep up the bypass which was not very easy, then tow strapped up the other four. It was a great trip and I can't wait to go back. I think they
need to change the trail rating system. Pritchett Canyon seemed
much harder than the others, but they all have a 4+ rating. --Don
