"Beyond CTM!"

Once you attain your CTM (Competent Toastmaster) level by giving your first ten speeches, you can go on to the next level of public speaking via what Toastmasters International calls the "Communication Track." The first level of this track is the Advanced Toastmaster -Bronze (ATM-B). To complete this level, you must have achieved your CTM award, and complete two Advanced Communication & Leadership Manuals (ten speeches in all).
Next comes the Advanced Toastmaster -Silver award (ATM-S). For this award, you must have achieved the ATM-B award (above), plus complete two additional Advanced Communication & Leadership Manuals, and conduct any two programs from the Better Speaker Series and/or the Successful Club Series (see me regarding the requirements for these series).
Next comes the Advanced Toastmaster - Gold (ATM-G) award. For this, you must have completed both awards mentioned above, plus two Advanced Communication & Leadership Manuals, Conduct a Success/Leadership Program, a Success/Communication program or a Youth Leadership Program, and coach a new member with the first three speech projects.
After completing these three levels, you're ready for the Big One, the DTM (or Distinguished Toastmaster) level. Concurrent with achieving the ATM Bronze, Silver,& Gold awards, you may also begin participating in the Leadership Track. There are two series in this track, the Competent Leader award, and the Advanced Leader award. For these, you must participate in the following activities:
Achieve the CTM award
Serve at least six months as a club officer as President, VP Education, VP Membership, VP Public Relations, Secretary, Treasurer or Sergeant-at-Arms, participate in the preparation of a Club Success Plan, Participate in a district-sponsored Club Officer Training Program while serving as a club officer, and conduct any two programs from the Successful Club Series. Once you have completed the Competent Leader series, you go on to the Advanced Leader level. To complete this project, you must serve a complete term as a district officer. This would be as District Governor, Lieutenant Governor Education & Training, Lieutenant Governor Marketing, Public Relations officer, District Secretary, District Treasurer, Division Governor, or Area Governor. In addition, you must complete the High Performance Leadership Program and serve successfully as a club Sponsor, Mentor or Specialist.
Once these projects are completed you can submit your name for DTM. That is, you will have completed your ATM-B, ATM-S, and ATM-G, the Competent Leader and Advanced Leader.

Actually, you may begin your Leadership Track as soon as you complete your CTM manual. If you aspire to a DTM it's imperative that you keep track of the activities you have participated in to make sure that you complete the required activities and hold the offices mentioned. Completing the required activities is easy in Azteca. Simply run for an office in the next election, and keep trying. Being an officer is fun and very rewarding. If you think that holding an office may be too much for you, it's not nearly as time consuming as you may think, and plenty of help is available.
Good luck, and keep those speeches coming. I suggest at least a speech every four to six weeks, or more often if you can. We always enjoy hearing you at the lectern!

Well, this ties up another issue. I hope that you enjoy reading these rags as much as I like putting them together. Also, please note above, that editing a newsletter is Not part or the "Leadership Track" or the "Communication Track." Oh well, I like doing it, so I'll keep it up.
