Society says there are no
absolutes and there is no absolute truth. Is this really the case? What
exactly does absolute mean? Absolute as defined by Webster is:
1- Perfect, complete
2-not mixed, pure
3- positive, definite
4-not without reference to
anything else
5- not doubted actual, real
The world today discourages us
to believe in absolutes, we see this when we see prayer taken out of school,
Commandments being removed from courtrooms, Crosses being removed from private
property because it "offends" a neighbor. God is absolute, and
anything pertaining to God society want's done away with. I once heard a man
say the only thing absolute in this world was working and paying taxes. As
well a well know news commentator make the comment that no, not a thingis
absolute. As Christians we know better we have the scriptures and we know that
God's word is an extension of His truthful character.
Let's look at Psalms
119:42-60 43 And take not the word of truth utterly out of my mouth; for
I have hoped in thy judgments. 44 So shall I keep thy law continually for
ever and ever. 45 And I will walk at liberty: for I seek thy
precepts. 46 I will speak of thy testimonies also before kings, and will
not be ashamed. 47 And I will delight myself in thy commandments, which I
have loved. 48 My hands also will I lift up unto thy commandments, which
I have loved; and I will meditate in thy statutes. 49 ZAIN. Remember the
word unto thy servant, upon which thou hast caused me to hope. 50 This is
my comfort in my affliction: for thy word hath quickened me. 51 The proud
have had me greatly in derision: yet have I not declined from thy law. 52 I
remembered thy judgments of old, O LORD; and have comforted myself. 53 Horror
hath taken hold upon me because of the wicked that forsake thy law. 54 Thy
statutes have been my songs in the house of my pilgrimage. 55 I have
remembered thy name, O LORD, in the night, and have kept thy law. 56 This
I had, because I kept thy precepts. 57 CHETH. Thou art my portion, O
LORD: I have said that I would keep thy words. 58 I intreated thy favour
with my whole heart: be merciful unto me according to thy word. 59 I
thought on my ways, and turned my feet unto thy testimonies. 60 I made
haste, and delayed not to keep thy commandments. 61 The bands of
the wicked have robbed me: but I have not forgotten thy law. 62 At
midnight I will rise to give thanks unto thee because of thy righteous
judgments.
Let's take a look at a list of
ways we can find AND keep His awesome truths in our lives:
VS 42- Trust in His Word- The
Bible, KJV
VS 43- Have hope in His
ordinances- His Promises
VS 44- Keep His Law Always-
Obedience
VS 45- Seek His Precepts-
Follow His ways
VS 46- Will not be ashamed-
Continue to perservere
VS 47- Delight in His
Commandments- Live according to His will
VS 48- Meditate on His Statutes
- Have the Mind of Christ
VS 49- Remember His word as it
offers us hope
VS 50-Take comfort in His word
it gives us life
VS 51- Never turn aside from
His ways
VS 52- Remember His judgment
and take comfort in it
VS 55- Remember His name and
take comfort in it
VS 58- Keep His word in your
heart and find favor in His word
VS 59- Turn away from your own
desires
VS 60- Do not delay in keeping
His ways
One thing each of these
scriptures has in common is the call for obedience and the call for staying
close and taking comfort in Him. Many times I hear the comments "I don't
know what to believe" or "I don't want to be led astray". If we
continue to stay close to Him, continue in His word, always seeking His truth
and righteousness, and always depending on the Holy Spirit to lead, guide and
direct us we will leave much less room for doubt, confusion and being misled. John
14:6 tells
us Jesus
saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the
Father, but by me.
We must always keep our focus
on Him, on His teachings, His ways. This scripture is quite clear that there
is no other way to the Father but through CHRIST. Our Pastors, teachers, and
certainly not priest or the mother of Christ will get you any closer to the
Father. We must use discernment and always take the FULL counsel of the word
into it's intended context.
My friend if you are feeling
that there are no absolutes, feeling let down, or feeling failure. Be as that
lady, who reached out and touched the hem of Christ's garment. Reach out He is
there, He is the Risen Christ, He cares for you. Don't be discouraged by
what's going on in the world around you where there appears to be no
absolutes. Keep your focus on HIM for He is absolute!!
