Knowing God's will is certainly something we all as believers must seek. However there are some circumstances that we know what His perfect will is for example:

WE KNOW it is His will for us to seek justice at all times and we do what is right. Amos 5:24

WE KNOW it is His will for us to love others 1 Corinthians 4:1

WE KNOW it is His will that we serve others, placing them above ourselves. Mark 10:43-45

WE KNOW it is His will for us to obey his laws and the laws of the land. Exodus 20:1-17

WE KNOW it is His will for us to live under the power and guidance of the Holy Spirit. Galations 5:22-26

WE KNOW it is His will that we do everything in our lives as unto Him Proverbs 16:3

However, what about those things that we do not know what His perfect is? Like a new job, what church to attend, a possible move, or anything else in our lives that we have uncertainty of? One thing we know for sure is that God has a plan for each of our lives, because He cares about what we do, He cares about even the smallest details of our lives. Our lives are a barometer of the conditions of our hearts.Psalms 139: 3 Thou compassest  my path and my lying down, and art acquainted with all my ways.

God's plans for us are always for the good. Unknown plans can be frightening to us at times, but we can rest assured that when the plans are God's we can expect something wonderful. Psalms 138:8 The LORD will perfect that which concerneth me: thy mercy, O LORD, endureth for ever: forsake not the works of thine own hands. Also we can take great comfort in Jer. 29:11 For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected  end. God definitely wants us to follow the path most pleasing to him, and not the path more pleasing to our flesh Psalms 32:8 I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou shalt go: I will guide thee with mine eye.

Some of the ways we can discover God's will for our life are:

  • Look for His will for your life and life's circumstances -  Proverbs 2:3-8 2 So that thou incline thine ear unto wisdom, and apply thine heart to understanding; 3 Yea, if thou criest after knowledge, and liftest up thy voice for understanding; 4 If thou seekest her as silver, and searchest for her as for hid treasures; 5 Then shalt thou understand the fear of the LORD, and find the knowledge of God. 6 For the LORD giveth wisdom: out of his mouth cometh knowledge and understanding. 7 He layeth up sound wisdom for the righteous: he is a buckler to them that walk uprightly. 8 He keepeth the paths of judgment, and preserveth the way of his saints.
  • Be in His word fervently, open heartedly   -  Isaiah 2:3 And many people shall go and say, Come ye, and let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, to the house of the God of Jacob; and he will teach us of his ways, and we will walk in his paths: for out of Zion shall go forth the law, and the word of the LORD from Jerusalem.
  • Seek Him with Passion not with causality - Hosea 6:3  Then shall we know, if we follow on to know the LORD: his going forth is prepared as the morning; and he shall come unto us as the rain, as the latter and former rain unto the earth.
  • Ask Him through prayer for wisdom guidance and direction. - James 1:5  If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him. Proverbs 2:6 For the LORD giveth wisdom: out of his mouth cometh knowledge and understanding.

If we diligently seek His will for our lives He is faithful to show and guide us in His direction. There are times that we seek the advice of others on a situation taking place in our lives, we can derive a number of different opinions and options. However first and foremost we should seek God's will and not mans advice. Advice is good but should never taken precedence over His perfect will. We can be confident that what we ask in His will that He will listen to us. 1 John 5:14 And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us: AMEN AMEN AMEN
