Summer Dance Tips
If you are going to a Dance Camp this summer, that is wonderful, but what if you aren't? Some of us maybe going to the beach, or visiting relatives, or going to see friends. Whatever the case may be you need to remember to stay in shape this summer because if you don't you will be hurting when you get back.
If you are only going to be gone for a week, you still need to stretch out because even a week will weaken your muscles, especially if you don't dance very much.
** Make sure you are stretching out everyday you are off from dance. Whether it be barre stretch or floor stretches, make sure it is helping you keep in shape.
** Make sure you drink plenty of water and take a calcium supplement to keep your bones nice and strong.
** When you are on vacation somewhere, try to find a dance studio near you and take a class or two just to see how other studio's operate.
** Spend at least 30 mintues a day stretching and relaxing. Your body will thank you for it when you go back to dance.
** If you will be off from dance for a few weeks, stretching out your muscles will help prevent injuries when you begin dancing again.
** If you have an injury, make sure you keep treating it so it doesn't re-develop (try ice, heat, and any exercies that might help it)
For all you who are at Summer Camps
** Write down your favorite combinations from class. When you get back to your studio you can share them with everyone.
** Keep a journal. Write down the things you liked about each class and the things you didn't like about each class.
** Write down any and all tips that your teachers give you that way you can always look back on what they said.
** Critque yourself. Write down mistakes you make and how you can fix them. This will help you become a better student and it will make you aware of things that you are doing wrong.
Take everything as constructive critcism. They are only trying to make you the best possible dancer you can be! So hang in there!
