Health and Injuries |
As we all know, if you are a dancer you are more than likely going to be injured at one point or another, and everyone needs to know how to treat them theirselves. I have had two injuries in the past two years and they were not fun, but I got through them and continued dancing. So, I have decided to give you my own little tips on how to prevent and help these painful and uninvited injuries. |
First of all, you should make sure your pointe shoes fit correctly and that you are not slidding or bulging out of them. Also make sure you have the right shank for your foot! |
Always eat correctly. You need strong bones to be a dancer, so I would recommended either having one or two servings of dairy a day or taking a calcium supplement. This will make your bones tough and strong therefore preventing an injury. |
If you feel a muscle or bone hurting have it check on immediately. If you wait too long it could turn out to be worse than when it started. |
Make sure you know the proper techique so you don't hurt yourself. Always remember that your turn-out comes from yuor hips not your feet. |
Try your best to stretch everyday. It will help lengthen and strengthen your muscles therefore making them stronger. |
If you feel tired its probably because your body is weak so make sure you take a vitamin supplement everyday. |

Try to eat healthy foods, but make sure you get your calcium. Have a yogurt or cottage cheese. Fruit is always good, especially in the summer. Chicken has lots of protein and water is great as well. |
If you suspect an eating disorder in yourself or others, you should talk to them and tell them all the dangers of it. If it is yourself seek help from a professional or tell a friend about it. If you would like more information on these disorders click here |
If you do have an injury rest is the best medicine! I know it will be hard to not dance for a while, but just take it slow at first and then work it up to speed. |
If you have a question about an injury or health just e-mail me and I will get back with you. |
