How to Save your Toe Shoes
If your toe shoes are dying every month and you can not keep a pair long enough for anything then maybe you should take some of this tips to save your toe shoes and to keep them longer. If the shank is dying on you maybe you should try to buy a harder shank next time or a new type of shoe, If your box is dying there are alot of things you can do. First of all, you should let your shoes air out in the sun or you can put them in the freezer over night and that should harden them up right away, it will probably more than likely harden your arch too. Second, you can get this pointe shoe box glue (sold in discount dance magazine) It is sold for 10.00 and it will help the box of your toe shoe, but if your shoe is really dead I would strongly recommend you go ahead and get a new repair just so you won't get any injuries or anything like that.
General Tips for your Pointe Shoes
* If the floor is slick try using rosin on the bottom of your toe shoes or a toe shoe ruffer (This is sold in discount dance magazine)

* Remember in order to save the tip of your toe shoe you should either tape the tip with elastoplast (can be purchased or ordered thru a drug store) or just plain medical or sports tape, though elastoplast is the best. Or you can cut the fabric off of the tip of your toe shoes.

* Always treat your toe shoes with care. After class make sure you put them up in a safe place.

How do you find the right pair of pointe shoes for you?
Well, the answer to this is quite simple. When you start to order your shoes, look at the description. Sometimes its good to go to the web-site to get a better idea of what kind of shoe is right for you. You always want to try to find the right kind for you since all feet are different. It is also helpful if you ask someone who has had that pointe shoe before and to ask them about it. you can always go to your dance teacher for guidence as well if you are unsure. If it is your first pair of pointe shoes I would recommend Pavolova by Capezio, but you should check with your dance teacher to see what she or he my want.
Want to try a new pointe shoe?
That's fine! As long as you know what you are looking for. In order to try a new shoe you must first know what type of foot you have. Is it wide or narrow? Does it have a strong arch or normal? This are questions you need to ask yourself as you shop for new pointe shoes. If you know you have a wide foot you should look for a shoe with a wide box and platform. If you have a strong arch you should look for strong shoes (try Grishko, Freed or something with a special hard shank) If you have two different foot sizes then you need to take the size of your old shoes and compare them to the size of your new shoes. ALWAYS look at sizes and width's before ordering from a catalog, and make sure you know that what you're buying is correct. If you get a catalog you can read a description of the shoe which will help you pick the better shoe for your foot type. If you have any questions you can ask your dance teacher or e-mail me and I will be more than glad to give you advice on what shoe to try.
If you ever have any pointe shoe concerns you should confront your teacher and they should be able to give you more advice on what to do.
