Dad, I Want To Ask

Is the morning star in the north or south?
And what's on either side?
If the moon is full, it's full of what?
When if it's new, has the old one died?
Is it measles when the sun has spots?
Or is it dreaded chicken pox?
And when it sets does it go out?
Or is it tucked inside my big toy box?

You told me to bend like a willow.
So why are my bones so stiff and hard?
You just up and left me all alone,
So who signs my school report card?
I have so much to ask;
much I need to know.
You should have stayed a little longer,
I don't believe you really had to go.
You could have stayed 'til I was stronger.

Whale's Lament

Dedicated to the Bahia de Banderas
With eyes in the air, she sits, and stares.
Not seeing the waves crashing to shore,
Neither ships nor boats as they pass to port.
Her vision is of a very different sort.
Eyes looking inward see herself and child
Swimming, playing, joy without measure,
Diving, hunting and looking for treasure.
Memories play upon her senses
Ripping her heart with their tears
Wondering what there is left, how many years?
Oil slick, plastic, bottles and cans
The garbage of man, factories and more
Things all creatures should abhor.
Heavily sighing, with untold sadness,
She blows, dives, then turns out to sea
Desiring the ways that used to be.
Left no option, extinction she'll choose.
The human takes pictures pretending to care
But life together not is willing to share.

Five Fat Babies Ate A Fat Cat

Five fat babies, they ate a fat cat
And then all giggled with glee."
We're not being naughty", they said,
"Just doing lunch, you see!"

Five fat babies, they cut and they diced
And then all winked with glee.
"Are we fat 'cause we eat cat fat
Or are we fat cats?" they all ask me.

Five fat babies, they lay down to sleep
And then all smiled with glee.
"What fun we have had, and tomorrow we think
We'll climb to the top of the big gum tree."

Five Fat Babies and The Gum Tree

Five fat babies, they climbed a gum tree.
Then all five sat and sighed with glee.
"Do we climb trees because we are monkeys?
Or monkeys because we climbed the gum tree?

"Five fat babies, they climbed to the top.
Then all five screamed in glee.
"No one can climb higher than I can,
Because I'm at the top of the tree.

"Five fat babies, they all sat hidden.
Then they chewed gum with glee.
"If we ever get down to the ground again,
We'll all go away to the sea."

Five Fat Babies Rowed Away to Sea

Five fat babies they ran away in a boat,
Then all giggled with much glee.
"We are off to visit the other side,
Five very brave sailors, we hope you agree."

Five fat babies they paddled and rowed,
Then all asked in great glee.
"How far to the upside down side, is it?
How long will it take? How tired will we be?"

Five fat babies decided to turn towards home,
Then all rowed with a lot of glee.
"We are all very fat, but not very strong.
After afternoon tea we will go, maybe."
