Barb Jungr's new CD on Linn Records, 'Every Grain Of Sand' which celebrates the work of the legendary American songwriter Bob Dylan was released by Linn Records on March 18th, 2002. The CD is launched in England with a 2 week run at London's prestigious Soho Theatre and in Scotland at Glasgow's famous Tron Theatre, and subsequently tours nationally. It follows her enormously successful 'Chanson - The Space in Between', now released internationally which transformed classic Brel and Ferré songs with new arrangements and specially commissioned translations and was one of The Sunday Times' ten best jazz CD's of 2000. In 2001 Jungr performed in Korea, Sri Lanka, Germany, Norway and the UK, she has already returned to perform in Oslo's Concert Halls in 2002 and is to tour Norway again in the autumn and has been invited to present 'Every Grain of Sand' in New York. She contributed an original track to Irregular Records 'Article 14' CD in support of The Medical Foundation For The Victims of Torture and 2 original tracks to Irregular Records '9 by 2: Contemporary British Chansons' CD. She is writing the musical 'The Ballad of Nora's Ark' for Martin Sutherland Productions for production in 2003.
Multi talented, passionate and determined to raise the profile of the art of singing at every level, Barb Jungr combines chansons, jazz, blues, storytelling, and non-western vocal genres in her performances. The award-winning performer, singer, writer and cabarettist was born in Rochdale, Lancashire to Czech and German parents. One of the original acts on the alternative cabaret circuit with The Three Courgettes (Island Records) she formed the songwriting duo Jungr and Parker in 1983 performing internationally and appearing regularly on British television and radio. She has toured extensively; with Alexei Sayle and Arnold Brown (with whom she won the Edinburgh Fringe Perrier Award in 1987), and nationally and internationally with Julian Clary, also appearing with him in the West End and on TV in 'Sticky Moments' and 'Terry and Julian' composing, arranging and performing the theme songs for three of his national TV programmes. Her provocative, political, unique shows have toured for the last twelve years; 'Hell Bent Heaven Bound' (producer, Nica Burns, was a Perrier pick Of The Fringe in 1991). 'Sex, Religion and Politics' for Pascal Theatre Company won rave reviews at The 1998 Edinburgh Festival. 'Bare' played at the 1999 Edinburgh Festival, toured nationally, and is available on CD (Irregular Records IRR 039). 'Girl Talk', devised by Jungr and top jazz singers Claire Martin and Mari Wilson in 1999 has toured nationally since, and regularly plays to sellout audiences. In 2000 Jungr appeared in Century Films 'Killing Time' documentary, singing two pieces from Simon Armitage's 'Millennium' poem and performed as a guest artist in Amici Dance Theatre Company's highly lauded '20/20' at The Lyric Theatre, Hammersmith in 2000 and 2001 and at the Academie De Kunste in Berlin. She directed 'Darkness and Disgrace', based on the work of David Bowie, for The Edinburgh Fringe Festival 2001 starring European cabarettist Des de Moor and pianist Russell Churney. |
