BARB JUNGR: CHANSON - THE SPACE IN BETWEEN |
Barb Jungr needs little introduction. Possessing a voice touched by heaven, she has been described by Time Out as the "Queen of Musical Cabaret". From her early days on London's alternative cabaret circuit, touring with Julian Clary, in the West End and on Channel 4, and having won a Perrier Award - the first woman to do so - for Brown Blues with Arnold Brown and Michael Parker, she has come to dominate the cabaret circuit. Theatre Tours International are proud to offer Barb's talents in this show and her new "Chanson", both of which can play in any format from straight cabaret to formal theatre settings. "Divine Diva" Barb enthrals audiences with unique cabarets synthesising chanson, jazz, blues, storytelling, musical theatre and improvisations from Dylan to Gershwyn, Costello to Cole Porter; her arrangements and interpretations reveal astonishing musicality and her voice dazzles. Jungr has been regularly seen and heard on British television and radio, and toured with Alexei Sayle collaborating with Arnold Brown and Julian Clary (national and international tours, the West End, and television series). Her CD's "Bare" (Irregular Records) and "Chanson-The Space in Between" (Linn Records) are available on www.barbjungr.com and Amazon.co.uk. |

Newly commissioned translations of French classics (Piaf, Jacques Brel, Léo Ferré) blend with radical reworkings of contemporary songs (Elvis Costello, Robb Johnson) to create an extraordinary emotional journey. Britain's foremost cabarettist and chansonnier Barb Jungr takes the audience through a magical and moving show with Garry Laybourn's projected paintings, Debbie Isitt's sensitive direction and accompanied by London's leading musicians. Expressing pure emotion with her superb voice, mixing storytelling, humour and song. "Barb Jungr can, it seems, do anything." (The Scotsman) In the early 1990s, Jungr developed the themed shows that have become her speciality. Previous productions include "Sex, Religion and Politics" and "Bare". Jungr toured nationally and internationally with Julian Clary, appearing with him in the West End and on Channel 4 television in "Sticky Moments" and "Terry and Julian", and won a Perrier Award for "Brown Blues" with Arnold Brown, the first woman to do so. Her CD's "Bare" (Irregular Records) and "Chanson-The Space in Between" (Linn Records) are available on www.barbjungr.com and Amazon.co.uk. |
