1-STEP SPARRING
TESTING SELF DEFENSE TECHNIQUES
 
    ***  Both martial artists begin in JOON-BEE (Ready) stance. Attacker: right leg steps back with ki-hap (scream) while left low block . Defender: ki-hap when ready.
ALL TECHNIQUES SHOULD BE PRACTICED WITH INSTRUCTOR PRESENT WITH THE HIGHEST RESPECT FOR ONE'S PARTNER AND THEIR SAFETY! WE ARE HERE TO LEARN TOGETHER, NOT GET HURT!
 
WHITE BELT:
 
    *    Step left, LEFT OUT-IN BLOCK, double punch
    *    Step right, RIGHT OUT-IN BLOCK, double punch
    *    Step right, RIGHT HIGH BLOCK, left punch to ribs,                          
           left arm sweep, right punch
    *    Step left, RIGHT CIRCLE BLOCK and grab wrist,
          RIGHT ROUND HOUSE, kick to stomach, pull back
           with slight clockwise twist and LEFT PUNCH
 
YELLOW BELT:
 
    *    (Sparring stance when ki-hap) As you LEFT  
          CIRCLE BLOCK and grab wrist, step with right leg  
          behind attacker's forward leg and sweep as you  
          execute RIGHT KNIFE HAND CHOP TO NECK for
           takedown. While holding wrist, right punch to head
    *    LEFT SWEEP kick, RIGHT FRONT SNAP KICK to  
          face or groin, double punch
     *    RIGHT JUMP FRONT kick
    *    (Sparring stance when ki-hap) BACK kick
 
ORANGE BELT:
 
    *    Right step to outside of attacker's foot, RIGHT OUT-
          IN BLOCK, spin c-clockwise with left ELBOW TO
          STOMACH, left BACK FIST TO HEAD, left CHOP
          TO GROIN, grab right leg, pull up and left KICK TO  
         GROIN/FACE
    *    LEFT OUT-IN BLOCK, left step to inside of
           attacker's feet while spinning clockwise, RIGHT
          ELBOW TO BACK, left/right punch to kidney area,
           right side kick behind or side of partner's right knee
    *    LEFT OUT-IN KNIFE HAND BLOCK, left hand
          NECK GRAB while right step forward and pulling
           head forward to execute RIGHT ELBOW STRIKE
         TO FACE
    *    Standing FLYING SIDE KICK

    *    (Sparring stance when ki-hap) TORNADO kick
     *    Left step, RIGHT CIRCLE BLOCK and grab wrist,
          RIGHT ROUND HOUSE kick to stomach, push  
         partner's ARM DOWN and toward his back, PULL
          DOWN with right foot SWEEP, left punch
    *    [HIGH PUNCH ki-hap] - LEFT hand (in) X-BLOCK,
          circle left, continue duck under with ARM BREAK
          over right shoulder, release left hand and hold right
          hand grab, left step out and RIGHT SIDE KICK TO
          RIBS
    *    [HIGH PUNCH ki-hap] - RIGHT hand (in) X-BLOCK,
          circle right, DUCK UNDER twisting arm into ARM
          LOCK, grab hair/collar with left hand, easy PULL
          DOWN onto back, left knee on chest, left punch (CAUTION:   BE CAREFUL OF PARTNER'S      SHOULDER WHEN DOING TAKE DOWN - GO EASY)
 
PURPLE BELT:
 
    *    Right step outside attacker's forward foot with
          RIGHT OUT-IN BLOCK, SPIN C-CLOCKWISE with  
         LEFT ELBOW to chest & RIGHT FIST to bridge of
          nose (same time), left leg SWEEP with left arm flip,
          double punch
    *    RIGHT OUT-IN BLOCK followed by immediate left
          step in-between partner and your right leg, continue
          CLOCKWISE SPIN with RIGHT ELBOW to chest
          and LEFT to bridge of nose (same time), right leg
          SWEEP with right arm flip, double punch
    *    RIGHT OUT-IN BLOCK, LEFT WRIST GRAB,
          RIGHT ELBOW to stomach, RIGHT BACKFIST to
          forehead, GRAB OWN LEFT WRIST with right hand,  
         pull left then RIGHT ELBOW STRIKE to partner's
          face
    *    RIGHT LEG/ LEFT LEG ROUNDHOUSE kick,
          RIGHT BACK KICK
 
BLUE BELT:
 
    *    RIGHT OUT-IN BLOCK, double PUNCH, left leg
          BACK KICK
    *    LEFT OUT-IN BLOCK, left step to inside of
          attacker's feet while SPINNING CLOCKWISE,
          RIGHT ELBOW TO BACK, left/right PUNCH to
          kidney area, RIGHT JUMP BACK KICK
    *    Left side step with RIGHT CIRCLE BLOCK, right
          hand wrist grab, right leg ROUND HOUSE kick to
          stomach, continue wrist grab while placing RIGHT
          LEG OVER RIGHT ARM, DOUBLE ROUND
          HOUSE kick to face
    *    CRESCENT KICK, immediately execute SAME LEG
          SIDE KICK (switch form)
BLUE BELT / RED STRIPE:
 
    *    (Sparring stance when ki-hap) LEFT SIDE KICK,
          RIGHT JUMP BACK kick
    *    LEFT CIRCLE BLOCK, right hand knife hand CHOP
          TO NECK, GRAB HEAD with both hands, right leg
          sweep while HOLDING/PUSHING HEAD
          BACKWARDS to TAKE DOWN, and right/left punch
    *    RIGHT CIRCLE BLOCK,  grab arm, twist, step left,
          BREAK ELBOW  with left KNIFE HAND CHOP, right
           leg AXE KICK to neck (take down)
    *    Left step, RIGHT CIRCLE BLOCK and grab,
          ROUND HOUSE KICK TO FACE, left
         step/left hand GRAB shoulder (DOBOK), left forward
          sweep and BACKWARD PULL DOWN, low left side
          or round house kick
 
RED BELT and RED BELT / 1ST  BLACK STRIPE
 
    *    Left inside step, LEFT OUT-IN block, CLOCKWISE
          TURN, right ELBOW TO BACK, right arm
          BACKWARD SWEEP TAKE DOWN with right leg
          sweep
    *    Left inside step, LEFT OUT-IN block, CLOCKWISE
          turn, right ELBOW TO BACK, left SIDE KICK TO
          BACK OF RIGHT KNEE, and SPINNING RIGHT  
         LEG BACK HOOK KICK to head
    *    LEFT JUMP FRONT kick, RIGHT JUMP BACK kick
 
RED BELT / 2ND BLACK STRIPE:
 
    *    HIGH PUNCH ki-hap - LEFT (in) X-BLOCK, circle
          left, DUCK UNDER with ARM BREAK over right
          shoulder, continue clockwise turn holding partner's
          right wrist with left hand while FORCING ELBOW
          BEND with right hand ridge strike, push
         partner's arm back while placing right hand on own
          left hand while pushing arm FORCING TAKE DOWN
          downward
    *    (Sparring stance when ki-hap) RIGHT leg ROUND
          HOUSE, 360 DEGREE RIGHT LEG ROUND
          HOUSE, followed by right leg SKIP-SIDE kick
 
RED BELT / 3RD BLACK STRIPE & BLACK BELT ONLY:
 
    *    LEFT OUT-IN block, left step to inside of attacker's
          feet while spinning clockwise, right ELBOW TO
          BACK, left/right punch to kidney area, FAKE      
         SPINNING RIGHT BACK HOOK KICK, continue  
          clockwise spin to RIGHT LEG SWEEP TO BACK OF
          PARTNER'S RIGHT LEG for take down, finish with
          left collar grab & right punch
     *    Left side step, RIGHT CIRCLE BLOCK and grab,
          right ROUND HOUSE kick to STOMACH, left step
          behind opponent and place RIGHT FOOT ON
          PARTNER'S FORWARD RIGHT THIGH, step up
          while swinging left leg over partner's left shoulder to
          kick chest, body weight forcing take down &
          maintaining balance landing on both feet, left hand
          collar/hair grab, right hand punch to head
    *    [HIGH PUNCH ki-hap] - LEFT hand (in) X-BLOCK,
          circle left, DUCK UNDER with arm break over right
          shoulder, continue clockwise turn, holding partner's
          right wrist with both hands while stepping back with
          left foot, quickly pull & twist partner's arm, WHIP
          TAKEDOWN in c-clockwise throwing motion.
 
(CAUTION:

     IS WATCHING - GO EASY)
 
BLACK BELT ONLY:
 
    *    Left step & LEFT CIRCLE BLOCK, right KNEE TO
          GROIN while placing RIGHT ARM c-clockwise
          AROUND BACK OF NECK & pushing head down, left
          hand 270 degree clockwise upward arm thrust turning  
         partner's face upward, jerk upward on neck during
          TAKE DOWN (CAUTION: NO FORCEFUL UPWARD
          JERKING OR TAKE DOWN IN PRACTICE - GO
          EASY)                      
     *    LEFT CIRCLE BLOCK, right ROUND HOUSE,
          placing RIGHT HAND ON CHIN and LEFT HAND ON
          TOP OF PARTNER'S HEAD, TWIST HEAD sharply to
          the left for TAKE DOWN, punch (CAUTION: SHOULD
          BE PRACTICED GENTLY AND ONLY WHILE
          INSTRUCTOR  IS  WATCHING - GO EASY)
    *    Simultaneous LEFT OUT-IN AND RIGHT-OUT IN
          BLOCKS to BREAK ELBOW, LEFT KNIFE HAND
          STRIKE TO NECK, continue clockwise turn into
          RIGHT "SLEEPER" HOLD, force TAKEDOWN & right
          punch
     *    LEFT HIGH block, RIGHT RIDGE HAND STRIKE
          TO NECK, continue clockwise turn, forcing right arm
          upward and trapping partner's right arm into RIGHT
         "SLEEPER" HOLD, force TAKEDOWN & trap
       * RIGHT HIGH BLOCK, glide RIGHT ELBOW
          DOWNWARD INTO PEC PRESSURE POINT and
          glance outward, turn counterclockwise, left KNIFE
          HAND TO RIBS, grab collar, left leg SIDE KICK to
          back of left knee, and TAKE DOWN.
