Grandmaster Park expects all students to train approximately three hours weekly, minimum. All Black Belt candidates are expected to average approximately 72 hours of consistent training in the six months between their probationary black belt test and black belt formal evaluation eligibility. Classes average 4 to 4.5 hours weekly. Children and teens/adults should have attended approximately 48 classes MINIMUM and have consistent regular attendance within this 6 month time period to qualify for a scheduled formal evaluation. To simplify, if a student passes his 6 month anniversary, has this minimum regular attendance record, can perform the required poomse/forms, 1-step sparrings, hand self-defense, gun and knife defense techniques, and displays the proper martial arts attitude, this student may be eligible to be scheduled for the formal evaluation. NOTE: Any repeated absences of more than two (2) consecutive classes may indicate insufficient training opportunity and preparation time, and may jeopardize eligiblity for evaluation or testing.

SPECIAL NOTE TO NEW BLACK BELT CANDIDATES
ALL BLACK BELT & ASSISTANT INSTRUCTOR CANDIDATES are to prepare a 1 & 1/2, double spaced, typed essay on Tae Kwon Do to read at their BLACK BELT TESTING. This essay should contain the following: 1. What becoming a black belt or assistant instructor means to you; 2. How TKD has helped you. 3. Include thanks to the Grandmaster, your Master, other assistant instructors or black belts; 4. Include your commitment to continue training in TKD, perfecting your marital art skills, your character, and teaching skills (Asst. Instructor candidates, only.)

Three (3) weeks BEFORE THE TEST, bring the following:
*  Four (4) small pictures (left-over school pictures work well -   only head shot used)
*  Two (2) copies of your TAE KWON DO ESSAY
*  Test check made payable to MASTER BARBEAU (See him   for cost)
At the time of the test, BRING YOUR OWN COPY OF YOUR ESSAY TO READ.
ALL 3RD BLACK STRIPE CANDIDATES SHOULD PRINT THIS NOTE AND KEEP A COPY HANDY FOR REFERRENCE WHEN THE TIME ARRIVES; also GIVE TO MASTER BARBEAU A FULL LENGTH PHOTO IN DOBOK & BRIEF BLURB ABOUT YOURSELF (See BLACK BELTS page on web site for guide) immediately after 3rd black stripe testing.

TKD SPARRING
*  REMINDER to PARENTS:  Parents, please check to see that your child brings all necessary gear and equipment to SCHEDULED SPARRING CLASSES.  For several reasons, your child is not allowed to spar without the necessary equipment. This includes groin protective equipment for boys and mouthpieces for all.  If you need any gear or accessories, please see Master Barbeau so that your child can be prepared to spar. Students at Yellow belt level and above who attend sparring classes are expected to have all equipment for class. Those without equipment may be asked to sit and watch, call for early pick-up from class, or just do NO CONTACT sparring.  Thank you for your help.

REMEMBER, KIDS: IF YOU FORGET YOUR SPARRING GEAR, SPECIFICALLY YOUR MOUTHGUARD AND GROIN PROTECTION, YOU MAY NOT FULL CONTACT SPAR THAT DAY.
