Grand Master Park earned the 1st degree black belt at age ten. He has held the 9th degree black belt since April, 1997 from the World Tae Kwon Do Federation (Kukkiwon). He was the undefeated champion of the Korean National Tournament in 1965 and also the captain of the Korean National Tae Kwon Do team in 1965. He studied Hapkido with the founder of that art, Yong-Sool Choi (1904-1986). He received the 7th degree black belt from Mr. Choi in 1976. Dr. J. Park also holds the 1st degree black belt in Judo and studied Kurndo (sword fighting). He joined the Korean Army, as a Lieutenant, and served with the South Vietnamese Army in 1967. While on duty in South Vietnam, he was taken prisoner of war by the Viet Cong. He utilized his skills in Tae Kwon Do and Hapkido to escape, and turned his ability to the advantage of the Allied forces. Upon return to Korea he was recognized as a national war hero. in 1970 Dr. Park published an autobiographical account of his Viet Nam experiences entitled "Through the Jungle of Death". |

By formal education Dr. Park is a veterinarian. Other awards and credentials include: * Certified international Master instructor by World Tae Kwon Do Federation. * 1976-1982 Chairman of J. Park's National Tae Kwon Do, Karate & Kung-Fu Championship ("A" rated). * Named the Outstanding Instructor of the World in 1976 by Chang Moo Kwan and by World Tae Kwon Do Federation in 1982. * 1979, 1981 performed exhibition at Madison Square Garden in New York. * 1980, 1981 Chairman of Region 1 (State of New York, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Maine and New Hampshire) A.A.U. Tae Kwon Do Committee. * Director of 1983, 1984 Florida State Tae Kwon Do Championship of U.S.T.U. * Co-ordinator A.A.U. National Junior Olympic Tae Kwon Do Event in 1984. * 1981-1986 President of Florida State Tae Kwon Do Association of U.S.T.U. - Founder of U.S. Hapkido Association. * 1982 Founder of World Traditional Hapkido Federation. * Taught U.S. National Tae Kwon Do Champions. * Dr. Park's students still maintain 20 branch schools in Mass., Conn., Maine. Puerto Rico. Florida, So. Carolina and New York City. * 1988 Published an instructional manual for "Traditional Tae Kwon Do' * 1995 Released a technical manual on "Traditional Hapkido". * 2001 Published traditional technical manual "White Belt to 4th Degree Black Belt". |
