last night was a kick back night.  parkin and i tried out a shanghai-nese/taiwanese restaurant that he'd been eyeing a couple of times on irving street where they serve dishes as well as 'street food' like chicken bits and fried fish cake.  it was really tasty, quite pricey for the 'street food', but yummy non the less.  afterwards we went to stonestown to pick up a gift for my cousin's daughter's red egg and ginger party that we went to this afternoon.  at nordstroms, i picked out a pair of bridesmaid's shoes, a silver strappy sandal that i hopefully will be able to wear again someday.  we went to the infants dept and picked up a nice baby blanket for the party and stopped by brass plum where i saw some great deals.  unfortunately my fat ass wouldn't fit into the pants!  *dammit*  i tried on the 9 thinking i'd have plenty of room to spare... i guess not.  the damn pants were super tight hip huggers and my hips weren't appreciating the affection.  i really need to lose some ass.  i hate trying on pants. *sigh*

when i woke up this morning, i heard my mom on the phone with a friend and they were planning to get together after the baby party we were attending in the afternoon.  the friend ended up being parkin's parents.  haha.  when i picked him up for the party, i asked him if he'd talked to his parents and he said no.  i told him that our parents were going to hang out later, and he laughed.

so we drove to oakland where baby bridget celebrated her birth, chinese style, with a red egg and ginger party.
bridget is an adorable baby with a super tall good looking white dad and a beautiful thin chinese mom.  she has beautiful blue/brown eyes and a good lot of hair on her head, peg would be super jealous.  i wish that they lived close by so i could visit more often, but they live up in sac which makes it hard to just stop by.

lunch was amazing at oakland chinatown's peony.  most red egg luncheons are buffet style with fried chicken, chow mein and pork and such, but this was a sit down lunch served at noon.  they served dishes like ha-gows, egg rolls and other dumplings as appetizers, then later came out with soup, seafood and veggie platters, chicken salad, chow mein and fried rice, a coconut dessert as well as cake and more that i can't remember.  it was a full 10 course meal.  my aunt and uncle went all out for their first grandchild.  we had a really good time and went home with lots of leftovers.

when we got home, we left our parents to have their fun and we vegged out at his place for a bit before meeting mayu for dinner at the mandarin, where ivy works with oli's family at their restaurant.  i used to work there too for a couple of months last year before they found a full time hostess that took on the banquet position that i turned down.  wendy, the ex-general manager had offered me the position of daytime hostess in charge of banquets and when i turned it down, i was basically let go for wendy to find someone to fulfill the position.  a few months later, wendy left the mandarin and since then, ivy has taken over the general manger position and she's doing a damn good job.  when i worked there, wendy was always in her office chatting on her computer or playing games, she never seemed busy at all.  whenever i call ivy at the restaurant, she never has time to talk, and business there is doing better than it has since wendy left.  me too, for that matter. haha

since the restaurant had a bunch of walk-ins this evening, parkin, mayu and i opted to eat at the bar with joe the bartender tending to us.  we had yummy appetizers of shrimp rolls, crab rangoon and sesame shrimp.  we then ordered main dishes of crispy beef a la shezwen, eggplant, chicken salad, and my favorite, tomato beef noodles.  needless to say we ordered too much food... but actually we only had noodles to take home, in between walking around and checking up on the restaurant, ivy sat and helped us finish the food.

mayu gave me a bunch of passed down bridal mags after dinner and we went to walgreens to look for some lipstick that ivy told us was on sale... it wasn't tho, so mayu drove us back to my car and we head home.   long long day, i'm pooped!
pictured above, ivy behind the bar making a refreshing glass of lemonade.  hella good recipe that was most refreshing, especially with a splash of grenadine in it.  grenadine makes everything taste a little better.  ;)
