Sunday, July 14
after a long night of mj, parkin and i were suppose to get up early to meet cindy and matt to secure a plot of land at the stern grove for a free concert.  unfortunately we could NOT get up on time, and ended up getting up at 11.  *oops, sorry cin!*  we trudged out of bed, got ready and head over to noriega to pick up some dim sum.  i was suppose to make some spam musabi, but we ran out of short grain rice and since i wasn't satisfied yesterday, i wanted some more 'ha gow' (shrimp dumplings) and beef balls.  we finally found parking at noon and met them around noon thirty.  thanks to ellen, cindy's sister, who got there at 9:30 am, we got awesome property.  unfortunately the volunteers kept consolidating our space because we all didnt' arrive on time, and our large plot of land turned smaller.  even tho we were a bit squished, we all had a great time.   i've never experienced a live hawaiian concert before.  island riddim band opened for keali'i reichel, and hula halau 'o ku'uleinani perfomed while the music played.  i had such a good time.  i've never really listened to hawaiian music before either, and what i heard today makes me appreciate the hawaiian culture more.

during the show, i told cindy that i was interested in learning how to hula, tally overheard and said that she was looking for a partner to go with her!  apparently she had taken classes before but lost her partner, so she hasnt' been going.  the women of the hula halau 'o ku'uleinani were so beautiful and just conquered the stage.  i've always wanted to learn, but  watching them really encourages me to make the initiative and take a class.  tally is going to find out more information on the classes and get back to me.  i'm really excited. * thanks tal!*
it was so super crowded there, as you can prolly see in the background, the place was packed.  there was a woman who had plopped a towel and chair near us, but since she wasn't there, the volunteers folded her towel and left her with a tiny space.  when she came back, she started to accuse everyone around her of moving her space, that she and her family would not be able to fit in that tiny spot that was left.  we all told her that we didnt' move her, that the stern grove volunteers did since she wasn't here for 2 hours.  in a huff, she set down her things and opened her towl, opened her chairs and squished down in the tiny space.  her husband sat in back of her and children in front of her in a row.  we had a lot of people so we needed the space that we had, but slowly yet surely, she scoot herself onto ellen's towel and in about an hour's time, her chair and bag were completely on top of our space.  RUDE!  ellen's friend was sitting nearby and had to slowly move too, so as not to get trampled on.  not only did the lady  scoot more and more, she eventually dropped food on the towel!  *grrr*  it was a messy colored food that left a stain on the towel too!  she innocently scooped the rubbage back into her bag as i watched her.  the audacity of that woman!  during intermission, i whispered in anger with cin and she told me that matt wanted to talk to her but cindy advised against it.  i asked her if it was ok if i just go get the towel and she said ok.  i went over to the lady and said in a monotone voice, 'can i get OUR towel from under YOUR seat?'  she stood up and in a friendly voice said, sure.  i took my time standing there and folding the towel in front of the woman, and wanted to make a point to notice the stain on the towel, but decided against it.  in the process, her husband who was now seated next to her offered me one of their muffins.  "no," i said, and i finished packing up, turned around, and went back to my seat.
i was upset at her because it was really rude what she did.  she could have just easily asked us to move over a little bit so that she could move her seat.  instead she slowly scoot, and instead of moving ellen's towel over, she sat on top of it, soiling it more with the weight she was packing on it.  AND she dirtied it with her food.  *hmph*

we had such a good time regardless.  thanks to cindy and matt for inviting us!

parkin and i head over to costco afterwards and picked up a few things.  i bought '
gosford park' and he got 'the royal tenanbaums'   while he was looking at vcr's and dvd players, i tried callilng a few people to chat with, but got a hold of no one.  oh well.  we went back to jung's house, cooked some dinner and watched gosford park.

the movie was quite confusing at first, but i really enjoyed it.  since most everyone had accents, we had to use the subtitles. haha.  since it was a murder mystery, i tried to put the pieces of the puzzle together and figured it out.  yay for me.  :)

i felt really bad that i didnt' work out this whole weekend, so while watching the movie, i did a couple of bicep curls with 5lb weights and some sit-ups, air jogging, and leg kicks.

i can't believe that the weekend is over already!  no fair.
