this morning we head over to chinatown's 'golden mountain' for jalene's red egg and ginger party. it was a lot of fun! dana and i were at the guest sign-in table, well i was basically just sitting there while dana informed most of the guests where they were sitting. food was a sit-down style and was suppose to begin at 11:30, but didn't start until about 12:30 because of all of the unfashionable late. parking was a bitch tho, and there was an accident somewhere on the way... or something. the food was really yummy and i had a good time. i love traditional functions like these. dana and i were talking while the guests were being seated and mingling with other guests, and she whispered to me that she would never have a red egg and ginger and i got the impression that she didn't want to have one because of all the people. but then dana doesn't want a traditional wedding ceremony, she'd rather elope. she's not up to the large family things, and i totally am. i love getting together with family and celebrating tradition. parkin and i talked about it later and unfortunately the traditions will probably end with us or our children because sadly without our parents, we won't know what to do. thank goodness for our parents who will likely plan our 'passing out cookies' thing where we will have a roasted pig and pastries while passing out our wedding invitations in a few months. we'll also have a tea ceremony before the banquet at the rincon, and we'll definately have a red egg and ginger party when we have kids. i loved attending such rituals when i was a child and i'll be happy to be hosting such traditions as an adult. yes it is difficult and time consuming and probably a headache to plan these things, but i think that it'll be well worth the trouble to be sharing our joy with others. is that old skool thinking? after the red egg party, we head over to jana and jeff's house to help open the gifts and write out the thank you cards. i was a bit disturbed by how they handled a couple of things, but ok, that's the way they wanted it done. after we finished typing out the cards, parkin, dana and i head over to kitaro on geary street *yummy* and picked up some food then head over to parkin's house to watched birthday girl starring nicole kidman. it was an aiight movie. ben chaplin looks sooo familiar but we could not figure out what else we'd seen him in. anybody know? happy saturday everyone! 2 more days of weekend ahead, yay! |
