| had an arguement with my mom last night. it's been a long time since we fought and i felt horrible. and to make it worse, it was just a couple of days before xmas. i hate that. we were talking about the wedding and i had asked her a few things about superstitions i'd heard about and what not. basically i wanted to know what they were and the cause and effect of them. she just said that those things were bad. and i asked why. she said because they are bad. i just couldn't understand that and we both were so frustrated with each other that we started raising our voices and i started crying. i'm so damn sensitive. i hated it and after we sort of calmed down, it was over and i was feeling empty inside. i hate arguing with my mom. are you a pro in the art of feng shui and know things about wedding superstitions, please email me. i'd love to get into your head and ask you some questions. thanks. parkin and i made labels last night using mail merge for the first time. it was pretty intresting, a bit confusing, but easy at the same time. we will DEFINATELY be using mail merge for our wedding invitations. i also found paper magnets at office depot, yay! so while we labelled our envelopes for the s-t-d cards, parkin came across the discovery channel where jackie chan was taking them around hong kong. it was very cool. on tv we saw jackie take us to the places where parkin and i just visited, like temple street, the wet markets, hong kong island, stanley marketplace... very cool. during one of the discovery channel explorations to restaurants around hk, they talked about food and splitting the bill. they say that it is a no no to split the bill while a waiter/maitre de is watching. at times, they throw you out if you do that. that made parkin and i laugh. if you have ever been to hong kong and the restaurants, i think you'd agree with me when i say that this is the most annoying thing. after you've dined at whatever restaurant and ask for the bill, the maitre de brings the bill to you, holding it out to you to look at. standing there waiting for you to pay. glaring at you until you pull out your wallet. after you feel a bit intimidated, you throw some money on the pallet without much time to look at the receipt to see if it's correct or not. he/she quickly rushes away to get your change. when they come back, again shoving the pallet in your face, they wait for you to grab your change and leave a tip. but you can't remember the total bill because they took it away so quickly, so you leave 5 or 10 dollar coins there as a tip, and again with the *snap* of the money folder and they run away to help another customer. so annoying. well we showed them! parkin and i got our revenge in china/shen zen. we hated the way the waiters did that, it was so pushy. we had some dim sum at a restaurant with dana one afternoon, and parkin and i had agreed that the next time we were put in that situation, we would make the maitre de wait. so we warned dana of what we had planned to do so she wouldn't feel uncomfortable. she laughed and said, "really? ok!" when the bill came and the waitress showed it to us, we slowly stopped eating and looked at the bill. parkin divyed... divied (sp?) it up and told us to put in our share. (remember we are moving in slow motion here. hehe) i looked in my wallet and didnt' have exact change, so i checked if dana did. she had a bunch of coins, so started to count them. in the meantime, the waitress is still standing there, looking at us like we're a bunch of kooks. parkin looked up at her and said in chinese, "can you leave this here?" she looked at him and put the pallet on the table... but continued to stand there and watch us. so we made her wait longer. i know this may sound mean... maybe it was, but it wasn't busy in the restaurant, it was near end to the dim sum afternoon. we were making a point! a statement! finally, after about 5-10 minutes, we got the money on the pallet and she rushed away. soon she came back with our change and we left a $2 coin there, with the *snap* of the money folder, she disappeared. i'm sure she was saying in her head, "damn americans." as we left the restaurant, we sure as hell said, "damn chinese." i'm not suppose to be at work today. i talked to my boss yesterday and he was looking for our delivery guy, kevin. i told him that kevin wasn't coming in, but would be here tomorrow. (today) then he said, "oh, i didn't tell you, i musta forgotten! you guys have tuesday and wednesday off!" oh. "well, i need to get a bed set delivered to a friend of mine tho. can you and kevin work half day and get the bed set delivered to san francisco?" oh, ok. so i'm here today, on this cold chilly (but unrainy) morning. lucky for him i'm expecting some last minute xmas gifts to be delivered to me today here at the office. i hope that they arrive this morning. i'm bummed that they didnt get here last week. i procrastinated with ordering on time, but then on the website, they said order by this date and it'll get to you before xmas, so i trusted that. i shouldn't have. damn me. *slapping forehead* i dont' order online very often... not web-smart. what do you have planned for tonight? after the fed ex guy arrives (i hope i hope i hope) i am going to pick up a ham for xmas dinner tomorrow night, pick up some groceries, go back to parkin's house, wrap xmas gifts, boil and mash some taters for xmas dinner, finish stuffing envelopes of the s-t-d cards, then at night i think parkin and i will deliver gifts to the nieces and nephews. lots to do. i wonder what we'll eat for dinner tonight. i'm kinda craving taco bell. i hope that y'all's holiday spirits haven't completely diminished this year, that there's still a little flicker left for tomorrow. enjoy the night everybody. ~ |
