I've written this tutorial for users new to layers and animation, so there are a lot of screenshots. Therefore, I separated it into several pages to make it faster for each page to load.
Step 1 Open a new image in PSP, size 200 x 70 with transparent background.
Step 2 Using the text tool, type "Smokey". I'm using Tahoma font, size 36, bold, stroke color null, fill color black, floating and antialias checked. See Text Entry screenshot below. Click OK.

Step 3 The name is now on your image with the moving ants around it. Move your cursor over the name until your cursor is the 4 arrows. Left click and move the text into the center of the image. It doesn't have to be exact, you just don't want any of the text outside of the edges of your image. When you have it positioned correctly, press CTRL-D to deselect. Now it is fixed in place.
Step 4 Let's crop away the extra space around the text. To make it easier to see the letters, go to View > Zoom In by 1. Click on the selection tool:

The selection tool should be set to rectangle, feather=0, anti-alias checked. Select an area just a couple of pixels outside of your text. It should look like this:

Step 5 Now go to Image > Crop to selection and your image should look like this:

If you've cut off part of the text, click Undo twice and try again :-)
Click here to go to the next page.
