Roie's Rio Griego

7/19/92 - 11/10/03
Rio was only 11 and we are totally devastated.  He was the  love of our lives. He had two malignant brain tumors and a malignant lung tumor. Hope all the BTs who have gone before him were at the  bridge to welcome him this afternoon...

Lori's Max  Ski
1991(?)  12/15/03

Max came into our lives in late November, 2003.  A rescuer for another breed  stumbled upon him at the Bergen County Animal Shelter and alerted Boston  rescue.  We knew he had only one eye, but when we got there to pull him we  found he had bad hips and shoulders, his arms and legs were bowed to the  point where walking was a challenge, he was missing most of his teeth and he
was at least 12 years old.  Just the same, he was cute as a button and we  couldn't wait to get him home!  The shelter had been calling him "Blinky", but Josh thought that was no name for a one eyed dog, and renamed him "Max".
He adjusted to life in a multiple dog and hyper child home very well.  He stumbled a bit and was clumsy, but at the time I attributed it to the recent loss of one eye and the bad legs.  He especially loved to play with the  tennis balls with my son, they would play for hours.  Hard to believe, but
this little 12 pound boston could chew through a tennis ball in under 5  minutes!
On 12/14/03 Max started having accidents, pacing, walking into things and  became aggressive with my son.  We kept a close watch on him and when Josh  screamed hysterically that something happened to Max, I knew it was bad.  I came in the room to see him having a seizure, it was one of the scariest  things I've ever seen.  Shortly after, he had another seizure and we rushed  him to the Emergency Vet.  They admitted him and he had two more seizures that night and the only way they could stop it was to keep him completely knocked out with Valium and Phenobarbital. Because of Max's age and the rapid onset of the seizures, the vet felt that it was most likely due to a fast growing brain tumor.  His prognosis was as poor as could be.  We made the heart wrenching decision to put Max out of his pain.  On December 15, 2003, he started his journey to the Rainbow
Bridge in my arms while I stroked him and told him how much we loved him. Though you were only with us for a couple of weeks, you will live on in our  hearts forever.
