Sophie's The Sexiest (28.05.03 @ 12.13pm)
She's played one of the world's most beautiful stars and now Queenslander Sophie Monk has been officially crowned Australia's sexiest woman. Sophie Monk beat three-time winner Holly Valance. The blonde Marilyn Monroe impersonator-turned-pop star from the Gold Coast beat three-time winner Holly Valance in the annual poll of Australian and New Zealand readers of men's magazine FHM. Monk's win comes just as the former Bardot member released her debut solo album, Calendar Girl, and graced the cover of FHM's June edition looking much thinner than when she shot to stardom as the voluptuous fifth member of Bardot in 2000. While Monk took the fancy of men Down Under, it was James Bond bombshell Halle Berry who gained the most votes globally to be named the sexiest woman in the world. Berry's win marks the first time that an African American woman has taken out first place in the competition, which has previously been won by the likes of tennis player Anna Kournikova.

Sophie's Adelaide Instores (28.05.03 @ 9.38am)
Sophie Monk is in Adelaide today to promote her album "Calendar Girl". Tonight she'll be performing at Heaven Nightclub. Tomorrow Sophie will be doing some instore signings at Sanity, Rundle Mall @ 1pm and Sanity, Westfield Marion @ 6.30pm. There are heaps of Adelaide fans here so everyone should get along to either one of those signings.

Dripping in more than $100 000 worth of diamonds, pearls and semi-precious stones, pop princess Sophie Monk looked fit for royalty. "I'm a simple girl at heart," insisted the singer, 23, who has gone from obscurity to national stardom in just four years. "It's a bit surreal. I could never comprehend speding this sort of money on jewellery." Monk was also wearing a killer dress from Tom Ford for Gucci and $1000 heels from Terry Biviano. It was a long way from her humble beginnings on the Gold Coast or even from her showbiz break in manufactured pop group Bardot. "It seems to have gone so fast," added Monk. "But I'm living my dream, that's for sure. I'm enjoying the ride. The jewels adorning Monk's neck and wrist and fingers were from world famous jeweller Bulgari, which counts Elizabeth Taylor and Sophia Loren among its devotees. "I think it brings out the Marilyn in me," joked Monk, who once worked as a Marilyn Monroe impersonator at a Gold Coast theme park. Monk will have the chance to perform like her idol when she headlines a charity function on Friday night to raise money for the National Institute of Dramatic Art. An A-list of Sydney's stage and screen stars are expected to attend the exclusive dinner, hosted by Bulgari and NIDA. Monk will perform two songs from her debut solo album, Calendar Girl, as well as a surprise number � expected to be a reprisal of Marilyn Monroe's Diamonds Are A Girl's Best Friend. The event is to be staged at the Royal Hall of Industries at Fox Studios, with the menu designed by Robert De Niro's favourite chef, Massimo Bianchi, of Nobu restaurant. Bulgari will unveil its Allegra jewellery collection on the night, in addition to millions of dollars worth of one-off pieces. "It's really sophisticated and modern and the colours they use are beautiful," Monk said. It is hoped the event will raise more than $30,000 to aid in professional training and education in film and television for Australia's next crop of stars. NIDA graduates including Academy Award winners Baz Luhrmann and Catherine Martin are expected to attend the gala evening.

Sophie Competitions (21.05.03 @ 10.15am)
There are currently two competitions running on the Sophie Monk site. The first one is for FOS members only. The club is giving one lucky member a chance to interview Sophie over the phone for the next edition of the newsletter. All you have to do is send five questions to friendsofsophie@bigpond.com.au. The most creative will win. The other competition is being held by Warner Music. One person will have the chance to win 20 Warner label CD's. All you have to do is send your "Calendar Girl" cover with a self-stamped envelope to Friends of Sophie PO Box 813 Albert Street Brisbane Queensland 4002. If you win you will receive a note from Sophie on your album cover. Entries close this Friday so hurry!

Hello my darlings, hope you're all happy and having fun. I've been busy getting the album out there and I'm visiting all states to promote it. I'm doing lots of signings so I hope to see everyone. In today's Sunday Telegraph Magazine, there's an article relating to Anti-Britney singers. Tiffani is one of them. "Former Bardot member Tiffany Wood is well known to Ralph magazine readers. She appeared, bikini-clad, on the cover of the March edition, rebranded as Tiffani. She is working on a solo album and has written or co-written 22 songs. Sound familiar? Well, she descibes her guitar-based album as "a cross between Michelle Branch and Avril Lavigne". But while she may be aiming for Anti-Britney attitude, stripping down for an audience clearly doesn't bother her. Contrast this with Avril, who says: "I won't wear skanky clothes that show off my booty, my belly or my boobs," Hardened by her experience with Bardot, Tiffani also resists the temptation to spout platitudes about authenticity. "It taught me to treat the music industry as a business and, much as it's something you love to do, everybody is out there trying to make money out of you."

Sophie Monk will be doing her final "Calendar Girl" instores in Perth this Saturday. On 24th May 2003, Sophie will be signing copies of her debut album at JB Hi Fi in Hay Street, Perth @ 11.30am then at Harmony Music in Garden City, Booragoon @ 2.30pm.

Katie At APRA Awards (18.05.03 @ 11.02am)
In the Sun Herald today, there's a tiny picture of Katie with a small article to go with it where Katie talks about the APRA Awards which are being held this Monday night at the Four Seasons Hotel on George Street, Sydney. "Heart work: Katie Underwood: "This will be my first time at the APRA awards so it's hard to know how I will feel on the night. I think mostly it's an opportunity to be recognised purely as a songwriter rather than a performer. Performing is the face of a song, but songwriting is its heart."
