Montreal Gardens - St. Vincent's Little Secret

Tucked up in the hills of the east side of St. Vincent, is Montreal Gardens, a "labor of love", done by a Scotsman that fell in love with the island & its lands.  Not done for profit, but to preserve the island's natural botanical heritage.

All this is set into the mist shrouded hills above an area known as the Mesopotamia Valley, the island's richest agricultural region.  You can actually see bananas growing in the land behind the top right photo.  These gardens get barely a mention in the guidebooks with the Botanical Gardens in Kingston getting most of the coverage.

The photo below looks to the east from the gardens, toward  the Atlantic Ocean & across some of the farmlands covered by bananas, pineapple, sweet potatoes & coconuts.

As I said above, this is a "Labor of Love" and at $2.00 US to see this garden, it's the island's greatest bargain!  It is however, not close to Kingston, & it takes some time to get here.  But when you consider it, getting here is half the fun!
