Some of the regulars and I decided to go on a little field trip to one of the popular "Gitz halls" in Mississauga, Churchill Billards. Located on the corner of Streetsville and Britannia, the plan was to go at 10:30pm and just run the main table 'til closing time. To quote one of our players, "All I need's a dollar guy!". |

V.P. London and I decided to go a little early just to warm up before the prostars showed up. Well, little did we know that our "warm up match" was against a couple of young prostars. I guess I wasn't all that surprised that these guys were good. I was actually surprised that V.P. London was actually stopping some of these guys shots! I know and he knows that we've never played against anybody who was doing the type of moves these guys were doing. The speed, consistency, and the acuracy of these shots were some of the best I've seen. You don't see this kinda shit at our FAS table. I just wish they stuck around long enough so our regulars could have a go. Needless to say, me and Londo got smoked. Lesson learned. What I forgot was the unwritten rule of no center drags and no 1-2s. Me and Londo did center drags on two different occasions, and one of the prostars uttered to his partner "Wow, these guys are old school." Again, lesson learned. Having run out of money, Londo called it a night and at the stroke of 11pm, some of UTM's finest showed up (with some friends). Mike put a bunch of quarters down on the main table (Thanks Mike!) and while we waited for our turn, I thought I'd let the guys see what a Tornado table was all about, so we played a game. The common comments about the table were, "Holy Shit!" and "Holy Shit, my wrists hurt!" It was funny because it was like we'd never played gitz before. The differences can only be understood if you actually played on the table. My comment in an earlier article of the ease of passing between guys on the 3 bar was reiterated by one of Mike's buddies. I know he liked the table, he had more fun passing than shooting! Mike didn't like the table at all. To each his own I guess. And daym, it's an expensive table (CDN$2000 no taxes), and for a buck a game, it showed. Well, you get what you pay for. I didn't play much, I was quite content watching, trying to pick up some new moves. Nam and his cousin were running the table for a while, but lost eventually. His attention went to Street Fighter 3 after that. One of the few games I did play was with one of Mike's buddies. We were actually hanging tough and at one point winning. Our last and final goal, I did a "Terminator" (that's UTM talk for 2-3-1), but in a losing cause. I was up for another game but had to call it a night, I was getting tired. I saw a few arials from the back and did NOT see any center drags or 1-2s. Comparing my game to the competition that night, I'd say I need to practice a little more. I hope we get enough people to donate for our Fabi Table so we all can practice. (As I write this, the 5-bar on the blue side of our classic FAS table is destroyed. Someone broke the handle.......AGAIN! This really doesn't instill any vode of confidence in me for getting a new table. Is this what I can expect from some people at school who just don't give a fuck? Should I chalk this up to the SAC table just being so old? I dunno. One thing I do know, if we do get the Fabi, I ain't replacing the handle on the FAS table. Sorry, only the first one was free.) Anyways, I thought the night was totally fun, good times! I know there will be better players the next time around and that's a scary thought. Bring 'em on!! Well, running out of room here, til the next article. This is the President signing off. |
