N00bs or Students? | ||||||||
Return to the Main Page | ||||||||
By LTU Member Warrior of Zarona | ||||||||
As you may know, ever since LTU has been placed in the section "Today's
Featured Boards," many newcomers had arrived to our community. Sure, it's
nice to see someone new. Other times they act so much like retards, hoping
they can get popular that way. But no matter what seems to happen, the
members of LTU always seem to try to scare them away, first with by
insulting them, then by using other means of unneccesary action. (I.E the
n00b cannon.)
But is that a good or bad thing? Having new members is always a delightful event. But we can't accomplish this by scaring them off the way we do. There seem to be many topics that newbies place in, and most of them ask how the board works. Now this is what really ticks me off. From everyone's own laziness, the reaction is to tell the newbies to check out the board itself to find the answer. Can I ask you: will that really give them the answer? Look at the topics we have now. To a newbie, do you really believe they have any idea what would be going on? Or perhaps it may lead to MORE confusion, and then to MORE retarded topics, thus creating havoc in LTU? You see, because of our actions, the newbies will not know what to do, and so in turn uses natural acts of insanity to pass the time in our board. Then they get flamed for it, and then they leave. In a way, it is our fault newbies turn out this way. We don't teach them how the board works, and thus they make up their own way. And why does this happen? Mainly because we're lazy. Other times its because we're annoyed by the substantial amount of newbies coming into the board. But we need to understand that we'll never get new members this way. Think about it this way: If you are in a classroom, and a teacher hands you notes, but you get no explanation on the notes, could you truly understand and learn anything? The fact is, no, we'll never learn anything. Instead, we'll act upon ourselves to try to examine it, then think up our own way of how the notes are like, which, in most cases, is completely far from what it really is. This goes the same to LTU. So what should we do about it? When a newbie asks how LTU is like, tell them. Don't give them crap, and don't ever tell them to find out on their own. We'll get more n00bs that way, n00bs which COULD have become useful in our own business instead of acting upon foolishly the way they do. It doesn't have to be alot. Fact is, they ARE interested to learn about LTU, because they wouldn't be asking if they weren't. So consider what I've said, and try to welcome the newbies. Unless they really act like n00bs, be considerate and help them out a little. Hey, we were all n00bs once, and we had some help from someone one way or another. If you hadn't, then good for you. You've learned to survive through the torment of being alone while you treaded forward into a vast new land. But it would be a lot better if someone was there to help them, eh? |
