Say No to Barn!
Causes and Treatments
Causes:
This addiction unlike most substance addictions have no set addicting chemical such as nicotine in tobacco. For each person there is something different in the smells that radiate from a barn that causes them to become hooked. For many people, the smell of live animals tugs at the heartstrings and begs the person to return time after time. Some people can't stand hay because of something in the dust causes hay fever. When that same dust comes in contact with certian people it causes a euphoria similar to that of your first kiss! These are two of the most commone and most noteable reasons, but there are as many reasons out there as their are addicts.
Treatment:
There are many treatments for this addiction, but no cure. Even the step down method that works on most substance addictions is useless to this problem. The most common for of treatment is a controled exposure to barns. This means that no matter how much time they wish to spend in a barn, you as the supporting partner must restrict them to less then 10% of their former time in or around the barn. This will seem harsh at first, but eventually they will settle into the new pattern. If you happen to be in the suburbs and no barn is readily avalible then a little hay in the dog house can do the trick. Outside these suggestions, you are open to using your own idea because others haven't seemed to work!
