Writer's Workshop Grade 4 | Although I am not required to list the Academic Content Standards (ACS) on my lesson plans at this time, I do for personal and professional accountability to myself and my students. Since I teach in Ohio, I have the ACS for my state listed on the back of my lesson place page. I fill out one lesson plan page for each lesson I teach. So, for writing, I might only complete one per day, but guided reading lesson plans might be 1-3 per day. |
Guided Reading Grade 4 | I print out one master of each lesson plan document then run two pages back to back, so that the lesson plans are on the front, the standards are listed on the back. For each lesson plan, I simply highlight the standard(s) beign taught in the lesson. |
Word and Language Study Grade 4 | Another tip, I run each different form on a different color. For example, WW are on yellow paper, GR is on green, Word Study is pink. This color coding is just my way of literally seeing my different lessons each day. |
Writer's Workshop Grade 3 | ** This is not my original idea, but modified and borrowed from a workshop that I attended conducted by a teacher from Newark City Schools. |

Writing Process Posters | I have these mini posters on a bulletin board in my
room. Each student moves his or her name to the stage they are
currently working in. I do not believe all students are working at
the same stage at the same time, so this is a easy way to visually see the
status of the class at any point in time.
Although students are encouraged to work at their own pace, for projects I do set a specific date for grading, since I do teach in the real world where I have to record and report grades. |
Schedule | What do my days looks like? Here is a document outlining the Reading/Lang. Arts block in my third grade classroom. It is based upon a 2- 2 1/2 hour daily block. |
What do I need to accomplish this all? Here is a supply list of materials I use in my classroom | |
Map it Out | Make a rough draft how your writing plans for the year-- map out when you want projects due and when you plan to teach lessons. |
