Ode to Elk Camp
I left home with hopes running high
Visions of huge elk as we winged through the sky
I landed in Idaho but God only knows
Where the Hell Northwest sent my bows!

The next day with bows safely found
We jumped into the truck, Elk Camp bound.

For two days, in the sack Donnie did remain
While Wes and I climbed up and down steep terrain.
Donnie dreaming of cigarettes and beer,
Wes and I looking for elk and deer.

We camped next to a babbling brook
A site straight from a fairy tale book.
We had good food from chef Wes
We had good music from Les and Les.
Warm and balmy days with skies as clear as glass
Freezing nights with a thin sleeping bag, God! I froze my ass!
At night I listened to wolf and coyote calls
and that damn dog, licking his balls.

Twice I shot at pretty deer but for them do not fear
From the first arrow I did fling,
A horrid sound, Damn!  I plucked the string!!
The second arrow I released,
'tween the legs and under the beast!

For me there will be no braggin'
Off they ran tails a waggin'
Not a single animal died or bled
All God's creatures left safe in their bed.

Elk, deer, and grouse remained alive
Safe from us in Elk Camp 2005
