& Evans (1939) , A hotel, with accommodation for 100 and with the usual public rooms, it has a conventional main exterior facing the River Liffey.
It has, however, a vaguely "Austrian art nouveau going into
art deco" look about some of the public rooms, particularly in the restaurant, which has oak
paneling and an oak dance floor.
It is as if some small attention was being paid to Adolf Loos in Ireland. A little of this is evident too in the equally important Essex Street back facade of the hotel.
This continental appearance has been intensified by recent rehabilitation works, nicely carried out at considerable expense by the owners, who include some of those associated with a well known Irish rock groUup. Update 2008 - plans for major alterations are proposed.
