Welcome Aboard the submarine USS Bashaw website.

Hello Shipmates,

USS Bashaw SS/SSK/AGSS-241

If you haven't received an e-mail from us recently (since 1 Oct 2007), we probably don't have your current email address, please e-mail us at mcpo.ss @ peoplepc. com so you get the reunion info as it becomes available. Also update it on SubSailor.com at the link below so other shipmates can contact you.

The next Reunion is being organized by Bill Larime and will occur the week of 12 - 15 October 2009.

ATTENTION ALL HANDS!

A change has been made to our Oct 2009 Bashaw reunion. The dates have NOT changed, they are still Oct 12th-15th, however the city has changed, the new city is Las Vegas. We will NOT hold the reunion in Laughlin as originally planned.

The change has been made due to the logistics of getting in and out of that city and the lack of inexpensive tours that don't take all day. The new hotel is the Stratosphere Casino Resort Click Here and there number is 1-800-99-TOWER. The group code is C-BASH when calling to make reservations.

The rates are basically the same approx $42.00 per night; hospitality suite is a bit cheaper. Food prices are the same as Laughlin, expensive. The hotel across the street Circus Circus has RV hook ups for those of you who wished to RV it. This will work out better for those of you flying in to Las Vegas. You will not have to catch a shuttle or rent a car to get to Laughlin. Bill has scheduled a tour of Hoover Dam ( half day) for one of our two days in Las Vegas which will be very interesting. See Deluxe Hoover Dam Tour Note: we are paying $48 each not the $61 the brouchre states.

Bill has scheduled only one tour, this gives you free time to visit with shipmates, take in an evening show of your choice, visit Fremont St. in the evening, etc.

Schedule:

  • Mon. Oct 12- Arrival and get together in hospitality suite.
  • Tues. Oct 13- Free day, possible group lunch, and free evening for shows, visit Fremont St.,etc.
  • Wed. Oct 14- Morning mini-tour of Hoover Dam (approx 5 hrs), lunch, followed by a planning session for next reunion in the hospitality suite, and in the evenening a Reunion Banquet.
  • Thurs. Oct 15- Underway, Smooth Sailing.

At the Reunion Banquet, you have a choice of many entrees, see

  • Dinner Entrees and Dinner Entrees (Con't)
  • Banquet Bar

This site is maintained on behalf of the USS Bashaw Association formed March 08, 2001 during the first known reuion of all USS Bashaw crew members which was held in Estes Park, Colorado.

Thanks to the efforts of Fred Mochel (RIP) (and Bob Palmer who put together the first known listing of all Bashaw sailors), the first Bashaw reunion was a great success. There was a clear desire among all who attended to continue the reunions, develop a Bashaw web site, continue efforts to find "lost" shipmates.

  • To register as a USS Bashaw On-line crew member click here. "
  • This will take you to the SubmarineSailor.com web site where you can register for all the boats you were on. It won't make you a member of the USS Bashaw Association but it will let other crewmembers know how to get a hold of you.

    Interesting Submarine Sites.

The National Personnel Records Center (NPRC) has provided the following website for veterans to gain access to their DD-214's online: click here

This may be particularly helpful when a veteran needs a copy of his DD-214 for employment purposes. NPRC is working to make it easier for veterans with computers and Internet access to obtain copies of documents from their military files. Military veterans and the next of kin of deceased former military members may now use a new online military personnel records system to request documents. Other individuals with a need for documents must still complete the Standard Form 180, which can be downloaded from the online web site. Because the requester will be asked to supply all information essential for NPRC to process the request, delays that normally occur when NPRC has to ask veterans for additional information will be minimized. The new web-based application was designed to provide better service on these requests by eliminating the records centers mail room and processing time.

From the 1930s through the 1970s, the U.S. Navy used hundreds of asbestos-contaminated products in all of its vessels, which led to hazardous asbestos exposure among thousands of veterans. Many veterans who worked in shipyards and aboard submarines were exposed to asbestos through standard operations.

The Mesothelioma Cancer Center offers information to veterans about asbestous related cancer and the VA claims process. Click here for a link to the site
