MEMORANDUM TO ALL HANDS: 12 June 1945
Subject: LEYTE GULF AREA - LIBERTY, RECREATION AND GENERAL INFORMATION
1. The INDIANA will anchor in Leyte Gulf, Phillippine Islands for overhaul and recreation.
2. There are several Recreation Centers in the Area. Recreation parties will leave the ship daily.
3. All towns, barrios and civilian dwellings on Leyte and Samar are out of bounds unless personnel are on official business. All such personnel must have a pass signed by the Executive Officer.
4. No sheath knives or firearms may be carried by personnel on liberty or recreation.
5. Do not drink fresh water unless it has been properly treated or has been given clearance by authorities ashore.
6. Native liquor has killed several Navy personnel. Don't touch the stuff.
7. There will be no trading with Filipinos except at the authorized trading centers.
8. Censorship regulations remain in effect. No mention of Leyte will be made in correspondence.
