» CHAPTER ONE «
February 28, 2020...
"Are you sure you want this house?" asked Brian Littrell. His nose
wrinkled at the sight of the house.
"Yes, it's beautiful." Melissa Littrell answered. "Don't worry, daddy. I'm sure it's not twenty feet in the air." She smiled at her father's hostility towards the house. "It's not like it's haunted or anything."
"You don't know the half of it…" a voice whispered. Melissa ignored the cold chill. He sighed. She couldn't see him. She hasn't for the past twenty years.
"B-rok, what do ya got against this house?" asked a familiar voice.
"Annie, if I told you once, I've told you a thousand times--"
"I know, I know, the tragedy happened here. But this is my birthday gift to her." Annie replied.
Brian said nothing and trudged back outside. "I'll be waiting in my car."
"What do you mean? You and dad always talked about the ‘tragedy’ that happened her. What happened here?" asked Melissa.
"Well, it started about twenty years ago." Annie sat down on the blue, leather couch. "Nick, dad's best friend, was...uh...raped and killed…"
Melissa wanted to hear more.
"In this house."
"Oh my god." Melissa whispered.
"Yeah, so…" Annie pushed back some of her black hair that fell in her face. "I better leave. Aaron's gonna take the new boat out for a test drive and I gotta be there or else he'll drown. Take care, alright?"
Melissa was still in a daze.
"Alright." She walked towards the balcony and stood outside.
"Penny for your thoughts?" asked a voice.
She whirled around and came face-to-face to a blonde man.
"Hello."
"What are you? Why did you? Where did you?" she stammered.
"Who are you?" she asked.
"That is no way to talk to your guardian angel. The ghost of this house." He beamed.
"Huh? Run that by me again?"
"I am Nick." He smiled.
"The one that was---" he nodded.
"Surprise."
