» CHAPTER ONE «

Rebecca was so happy. She and her friend Kelly were on their way to the airport so they could board a plane to Brazil! She couldn't wait, it took forever to convince her parents to let her go, but after going over the whole ‘I'm 18 and I can take care of myself and Kelly is 19...’ speech about 50 times they finally gave in. Kelly had a few friends in the capitol of Brazil, Brasilia, so the would have a place to stay. The girls were so excited that they could barely even think. This was like a dream come true, they had heard that Brazil was awesome and were just too excited. And to make it even better the Backstreet Boys were going to be there too so they would see them in concert.

"Kel, drive faster, I wanna get to the airport!" Rebecca shouted as they cruised along the freeway about 15 minutes from the airport.

"Jesus Becky calm down, we don't have to get on the plane till 7 tonight and it's only 5:30, we'll be at the airport and check in an hour early. I'm not gonna break the damn speed limit." Kelly told her exasperated.

As excited as she was, she was not going to let Rebecca talk her into going 80 miles and hour. Rebecca rolled her eyes and rolled down the window of Kelly's blue Honda. Kelly and Rebecca were quite the contrast of each other. Kelly had short blonde hair, brown eyes; she was about 5'7 and weighed around 130 pounds. She preferred to spend her nights out partying and her days sleeping since she was on a one-year break from going to college. She was very out-going and never stopped talking usually. Rebecca on the other hand had shoulder length brown hair, bluish green eyes, was about 5'4 and weighed about 110. She was really tiny. She was thought beautiful by many of the guys at her old high school. She would rather spend her time hanging out with a few friends or reading a good book. Finally the girls got to the airport and Rebecca hopped out after grabbing her purse, which she had on the floorboard.

"Ready?" she asked Kelly.

"Always!"

So the girls got their luggage out of the back of Kelly's car, they had 2 suitcases each, plus one almost too big carryon each. They hauled all their stuff in with only a little trouble and checked in.

"Food..." Kelly said, she hadn't eaten since that morning and she was starved.

So the girls went and got food and then sat down by their gate. It was already 6:45 by the time they had finished eating and they were ready to get moving. Both girls were beginning to get very hot because even though they were from Oregon they got cold easily on planes so they were dressed in long jeans, Rebecca's dark blue that hung on her hips and Kelly light blue that fit on her tightly. They also had on their high school shirts since they had gotten them extra big in senior year so they would fit for a long time.

Kelly sighed, "Okay now I'm getting nervous, I hate flying it scares the shit out of me."

Her friend just looked at her and giggled slightly, "Don't start worrying now, or I'll get scared."

Kelly just shrugged, "Can you believe we're finally going? This is going to be so cool, the beaches, the hot guys, and the break from everything! And the Backstreet Boys!" getting excited again.

"I know!" Rebecca replied smiling, "This is going to be so prefect."

"Flight 720 to Brazil boarding now." the voice from the speakers said.

The girls looked at each other and grinned getting up to board. They threw their carryon bags into the overhead and sat down, there was one seat left and it was the window seat.

"Who do you think will sit with us?" Kelly asked.

"I dunno, with our luck it will be some crazy and you'll have to switch seats with me so you sit by him."

"Yeah right."

The last person to get on the plane was the guy sitting with them. He had a hat pulled low over his head and dark glasses on.

"What an idiot," Rebecca thought to herself, "either he thinks he's gonna kill someone or he thinks he looks cool."

Either way the girls were not impressed with their seating partner. But they ignored it and began talking about what they would do while they were in Brazil. After talking for about an hour, knowing they still had 6 hours in the plane Kelly took out her headphones and Rebecca pulled out a good book from the backpack she had set in front of her. The guy sitting next to them didn't say anything he just sat there looking out the window. He was so strange that after reading her book, Jane Eyre, for a while, Rebecca turned to him figuring she could at least try to be friendly.

"Hi... I'm Rebecca." She said trying to strike up conversation.

The guy didn't say anything just kept looking out the window.

"Well so much for being friendly..." Rebecca thought to herself so she went back to reading her book.

Rebecca was finished reading her book an hour later and she looked at her watch, another 4 hours till landing. She decided that since Kelly had fallen asleep a little while later, she could try again with this guy. She tapped him on the shoulder.

"Hi, I'm Rebecca." she tried again.

His face was barely visible because of the hat and sunglasses but he turned to her and lifted his hat a little...

"Nick." he said smiling.

"Wow," Rebecca said without thinking, "you're Nick Carter!" just looking at his smile she knew, he had been all over he walls a year ago and although she wasn't such a big fan anymore she would know that smile anywhere.

He just smiled a little.

"Great," Nick thought, "some crazed fan is sitting next to me."

But Rebecca surprised even herself, she thought about it for a moment and then realized that it must be weird for him being noticed like that.

"Don't worry, I won't start screaming or anything, I won't even pass out."

He smiled again, "Maybe this won't be so bad," he thought to himself.

"So what are you going to Brazil for?" she asked, "Oh, wait I know the answer to that one, the concert, but where is everyone else?"

She was talking in a very low voice not wanting to wake up anyone since almost everyone on the plane was asleep.

"They are already out there, I had some stuff to do so I'm flying out late. What are you doing there?"

"Well, Kelly, my friend sleeping there," she started nodding towards Kelly, "has friends there, and since I told my parents that since I was 18 it was only fair that they let us go by ourselves so we get to stay in Brasilia for 2 weeks. Oh yeah and we get to go to one of your concerts," she said trying not to act weird around him.

"Cool, Brazil is awesome, I hate flying over the Andes, but that's the worst part of going there. It's a lot of fun."

Rebecca nodded, "I can't stand flying, to tell you the truth I'm scared out of my mind about going over those mountains, they're freezing, and if we crashed down there, jeez, I don't even wanna think about it."

Nick just laughed, "Don't think about it, it's easier to fly at night you can't see anything."

"I guess, but then again if you can't see anything you don't know what's under you."

"Don't think like that and you don't have to." Nick said trying to stop her from worrying; he really was not to up on having a hysterical girl sitting next to him.

Nick and Rebecca kept talking for awhile and then Kelly woke up, "Hey Becky, are we almost there?"

Rebecca looked at her watch, "Another 2 hours, shit, in about 1 hour we'll be over the Andes."

"Go to sleep Beck, then you don't have to think about it, I'm going back to asleep too." Kelly told her not even looking at the strange guy sitting next to her.

So Rebecca agreed, she looked at Nick.

"Sorry to leave you alone, but wake me up after we go over the Andes."

Expecting Kelly to be nice about it Rebecca lifted up the armrest separating her from Kelly and was about to put her head in Kelly's lap when Kelly turned around so her butt was facing Rebecca. Sighing Rebecca just leaned her head back hoping she would still be able to fall asleep. She really did not want to go over the Andes she had seen a movie about some hockey or soccer team or something and they crashed there and they ended up eating each other.

"That's not going to happen," she told herself but she couldn't help from shuddering.

Nick looked at the nervous girl sitting next to him, he felt a connection with her and decided he could be nice about it.

"Hey, I promise you nothing's going to happen, do you want to lay down with your head in my lap?" he asked not knowing what else to do, "I won't bite or anything."

Not really thinking about it, just knowing this guy was Nick Carter and a major sweetie, Rebecca nodded and laid down. She immediately fell asleep. Looking down at the girl lying almost in his lap he smiled. He felt this major connection with her and she was so nice. He sighed and tried to get to sleep. Although he hadn't let it on he was scared to go over the Andes too.

"Nothing will happen..." he told himself, and he fell asleep.
