» CHAPTER NINE «

I pulled up to the Pizza Hut where I was supposed to meet Nick at.  I didn't know what kind of car he drove, so I didn't know if he was in the restaurant yet or not.  I walked and looked around.  In the back corner of the room, where it was kinda dark, I saw some blonde locks, so I walked back, and sure enough, it was Nick.

"Hey,"  Nick said, looking up from his drink, "You came."

"Yeah, I had my doubts, but I made it."

"Well, I'm glad.  Have a seat,"  he said, nodding towards the booth across from him.  "I ordered a large cheese pizza for us, so it should be here soon.  And a Sprite...I remember those used to be your favorite,"  I nodded.

I wasn't really hungry, but I figured I could probably manage eating a piece or two.  We both then just sat there for a few minutes in silence, sipping our drinks.

"So," I said, trying to get a conversation started, "Why did you ask me to come here?"

Nick looked up at me, began to say something, but held back.  Then, after another minute of silence, he finally spoke.  "I know this is probably really weird for you, with that guy from Nsync being your boyfriend and all, but I really wanted to see you.  And not just because I saw you yesterday, I wanted to see you the minute I found out that I would have some free time here in Orlando.  Before I know about you and what's his name?  Oh, yeah, Justin.  Before I knew you were with him."

I sat there for a  moment thinking.  "Why did you want to see me, Nick?  You were the one who didn't want to be with me."  I told him.

"I know, Sam, but that was a few years back.  We were both really young. And, a couple of months ago, I was cleaning out some junk in my room, and I came across a picture of us together.  And ya know what?  We made a damn cute couple!"  We both laughed at that.  "Anyhow, I got to thinking about you, and I remembered how much fun we had together.  You had a way making everything we did fun, whether it was out in a big group of people, or me and you just chillin at one of our houses watching a movie."

"Well, you weren't too bad yourself,"  I told Nick.  He smiled that million dollar smile at me.  Once the pizza came, we ate for a while, and that kept us busy.  We made small talk, but my mind was really with Justin.  I felt guilty, but I told myself that  that this was just lunch with an old friend.

"Hey, Sam.  I was wondering, are you busy tomorrow night?"  Nick asked me as we were getting up to leave.

"I'm not sure yet."

"Well, I was wondering, would you like to come to my hotel, and we could maybe have some dinner, watch a movie, and catch up with each other.  I sighed.  Nick walked me over to my Lexus, and opened the door for me.  "So, what do you say?"

"Look, Nick, I don't want you to get the wrong idea just because I met you today, but I love Justin, and I'm not going to break his heart.  Not like you broke mine."  I told him.

"Oh!  Sam, No!  I didn't mean like a date, just more like old friends hanging out.  What do you say?"

"I don't know..."  I said, trailing off.

"Please?  And hey, bring your friend, what's her name, Lisa?"

"Elise."

"Right, Elise, because A.J. thinks she's cute."

Oh jeez!  Now I have to go because if Lisey finds out that I turned down a chance for her to get to know A.J. better, she'd kill me!  "Fine, Carter, you got me.  We'll come."

"Ok, great!"  Nick said smiling.  He then gave me the info about his hotel and what time to meet him.  "See you tomorrow!"

"Yeah, bye."  As I drove home, a lot of things ran through my head.  Why did I meet Nick today?  Why did he want to see me...I'm sure it's more than him just wanting to hang out with me.  What would Justin think?  And why did Nick want to see me now, three years after he broke my heart--and without a good reason!  I guess I would find out tomorrow night.
