» CHAPTER ONE «

Sky took a deep breath, trying to calm her nerves. She was in gymnastics class, about to try her best at a cartwheel on the balance beam. The balance beam had never been her favorite activity, but she had to do what she had to do.
 
She went to pat down her already perfectly smooth hair, pulled neatly back into a tight ponytail.
 
Sky pulled herself onto the beam. Her heart beating faster than it had for a long time, she ran forward and spun in the air.
 
But for the first time in her life, something didn't come naturally to Sky.
 
She fell with a thud to the mat.
 
She landed on her left leg.
 
Hard.
